Peter David Talks Teen Titans

By: Rob M. Worley
Date: Tuesday, October 08, 2002

On his hisown website, comic scribe, novelist and columnist Peter David recentlyrevealed his involvement with the recently announced Teen Titansanimated show. David writes a number of titles for Marvel and DC, including thepopular teen team book Young Justice.

David's work on YoungJustice led DC's Paul Levitz to invite David to work on the developmentof the show. Although the character roster for the program would be reflectiveof Marv Wolfman's and George Perez's highly successful New Teen Titans,David points out that those characters "were far more 'Titans' than'Teens.'

David re-readWolfman's Titans and developed the series bible and wrote thepilot for the show.

"I hewed toDC continuity where I could, but also made a variety of changes for assortedreasons," David writes. "I won't go into detail as to what because Idon't RECALL [emphasis his] signing a confidentiality agreement, but if I didand just forgot about it, I wouldn't want to violate it. Anyway, my initial workon the project was strong enough to help get the series green lit."

David admitsthat his work was done months ago and he'd seen little of it between then andthe recent announcement. "I've no idea how much of what I contributedremains. For instance, I didn't have them set in some future period as impliedby the press release. That wasn't part of the mandate I was given," Davidwrote on his site.

David also hintsthat his work on Teen Titans has led work developing anotheranimated show for another DC Comics hero. Which one? David isn't saying untilthe show is greenlit. Check out PeterDavid.netfor more on all things PAD.
