Guardians of the Galaxy Plot Revealed

Details Details Details

Here is a very brief but interesting plot description for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movie has appeared as a log line on numerous film industry tracking boards, including The Wrap’s It’s On The Grid database.
About a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.

The word ‘about’ at the top there sits a little awkwardly but the logline seems pretty legit overall and definitely meshes with the comics’ material, at least as well as I know.

Looking back through some old issues of Production Weekly I see they published this very description as early as August 3rd.

Now, the details in this logline would make Vance Astrovik, aka Vance Astro aka Major Victory, the protagonist of the story, by my reckoning.

Not really a surprise that Feige and co. would be looking for a human way in to the Guardians world but it is a little odd, perhaps, that Marvel are doing something that, on paper at least, brings to mind the Green Lantern movie.

So… any guesses what the Maguffin is going to be? What is it that the Guardians will have? And who will be coming after it?
Thanks to redvector for the submission.

They're really doing this?!  With Vance Astro no less? It seems to me like every Marvel idea that's been kicked around since Iron Man hit is a better bet than this.  Black Panther, the Wright Ant Man movie,a SHIELD movie hell, even Syfy's ManThing movie!  The ONLY thing they can be thinking is that they want to start a family friendly franchise so seven year olds can love the talking Raccoon and the Tree monster.  Marvel's B list bench is deeper than this.  Don't waste Thanos on it either, we need him for A2! IMO , the only good thing that may come from this is the introduction of Adam Warlock, which they'll probably screw up anyway.

Maybe it's Star-Lord and they altering his origin a bit?

It's funny how this sounds a bit like Farscape.

I could see why Disney is attracted to this. It's a shot them at having their own "Star Wars" franchise. The Guardians are established characters but not have a deep history like the Marvel heavy hitters. So that means fanboys will get less pissed at the stories and changes.

I'm sold!

Kevin Feige said from the begining that this would be based on the DnA version of the Guardians a few years ago. So, from that description it does seem to be an blending of Star-Lord and Vance Astro's characters. And the plot sounds a lot like a blending of Farscape and Serenity/Firefly. In Farscape Moya was the prize the Peacekeepers were after at least at first but then it became the knowledge of wormholes in Crighton's mind. In Firefly/Serenity it was River that was the prize and the knowledge and powers that she possessed.

I think this will be a way to introduce other alien races from the Marvel comic universe to the movie verse. Like the Kree, the Badoon, and The Church of Universal Truth. And this "something everyone wants" could be anything or anyone.

and marvel begins to shit on there franchise... sigh fire the writer now please!!! or marvel will end up looking howard the duck. to quote devils advocate "it was a nice run kid, ckckck can't win em all." At least when the guardians showed up on the avengers cartoon they had adam warlock and the episode was pretty cool! i know now why they introduced them into the cartoon universe.

One of the Infinity Gems seems the most obvious choice for the MacGuffin.  Phase II is building towards a showdown with Thanos, so that seems like the most logical conclusion.  The various gems will likely appear in most of the other Marvel Studios movies leading up to The Avengers 2.  One of The Mandarin's rings will likely be an Infinity Gem in Iron Man 3.  Malekith will be using one of them in Thor: The Dark World.  In the comics, he usually wields the Casket of Ancient Winters, but they already used that in the first Thor movie.

Before anyone says, "The Infinity Gems can't be scattered around because the Infinity Gauntlet is in Odin's vault." that doesn't matter.  Nobody watching Thor actually saw it displayed there.  Fanboys know it's there because we were told ahead of time that it would be there.  It appears on screen for only two or three frames, which can only be seen by pausing the DVD/Bluray.  If they do decide to address it's presence in the vault, that can be explained away in a line or two.

By that reasoning an Infinity gem will likely be part of Captain America: the winter soldier as well. As I recall from the comic Bucky as the WS swipes a tesseract/cosmic cube but they'll probably substitute that for an Infinity Gem.

Hey Wyldstaar, you've actually got quite a good idea there...except for the part where they still end up making this GotG movie.  Otherwise, I think that would be a great way to create story mesh that is supposed to link all the Avengers universe movies.  Good thinking.
