Another director is in line to lead the thriller Edwin A. Salt. Both Peter Berg and Terry George were also in negotiations to lead Cruise on this spy film for Columbia Pictures before being ankled. Variety is now reporting that Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger) is in negotiations to direct the film which was scripted by Kurt Wimmer. While Cruise isn't committed to the lead the cast, he has been involved with pre-production from the beginning and it's still considered his role first and foremost.

Plot Concept:
The drama casts Cruise as a CIA officer who's accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy. He must elude capture long enough to clear his name.

I may sound stupid guys but what exactly is a sleeper spy???

It sort of like a double agent that is put under deep deep cover. It could be for years and then one day could be called on by his/her organization to complete their mission, whatever it may be.

Thanks ponyboy. :-)

This is funny. In the "Related Content" box it pulled some really old articles. One of them titled "Tom Cruise still in IRON MAN" from Tues, July 25, 2006. Can you guys imagine? What a disaster that would've been. I'm glad Paramount and Cruise had their falling out, because they might have forced their hand and given him the role. Man that would have been another Marvel disaster.

Anyhow. I'm not to thrilled about this project since it sounds like another Mission Impossible rehash. I'm talking about the first one. Which I liked, but do we need another one? Eh?

Yeah, doesn't sound too original. I'm surprised the "sleeper agent" isn't being accused of plotting to assassinate the president. That's usually what they're accused of doing. By the way, aren't we supposed to be friends with the Russians now?

"Sleeper agent?" Isn't that what you slip to kids to get them to pipe down on an airplane?

If Peter Berg isn't going to work on this film perhaps he can start on his version of Dune sooner.

Good observation monkeyfoot. I would rather he worked on Dune than this project. I don't like the roles Cruise protrays in his movies. They seem kind of everyday. Like a number of other actors could have been cast for the role and done the same job or better. I just don't see the appeal. He can keep producing just as long as he stays behind the camera. Anyhow I'm far more interested in a Peter Berg version of Dune than this.

Last Tom Cruise movie I saw that I liked was Minority Report. It's a movie where he's accused of wrong doing and he must elude capture long enough to clear his .....oh wait

I liked this better when it was called Mission Impossible, Eagle Eye, etc.

Who wants to see a movie titled Edwin A. Salt? Change the damn title!
