Warner Bros. has invited Phillip Noyce onboard to develop a remake of the classic swashbuckler Captain Blood, reports Variety. That's two projects on the horizon for the Patriot Games director, with him recently getting attached to direct the CIA thriller Edwin A. Salt. Warner is developing the remake of the 1935 original as a possible U.K./Australian co-production. Bill Gerber is producing.

Plot Concept: Story follows a doctor wrongly sentenced to slavery in the Caribbean, where he and his comrades become avenging pirates. It was nominated for the best picture Oscar.

I loved the original as a kid. I don't know how much damage I did to my house and my school with a big stick as my sword imitating Errol Flynn in this movie and Robin Hood, rescuing damsels from distress and dueling my friends.

I would prefer they just come up with an original swashbuckler instead of a remake. I don't know how many people would be drawn to see it on name recognition, but the original is kind of obscure so I think I could tolerate a new version.

Of course. Another remake. But at least this one is of a 50-year old movie, not a 3-year old Korean horror flick. Don't know how much a non-Sparrow pirate movie will do, but I hope well. I like pirates. Who doesn't? Hell, I even loved Cutthroat Island. Geena Davis was so hot. Still is!

I've seen the original and read the book. While their both classics, much was left out of the original novel that could be put into this adapataion remake. And I think updating it in general with effects, acting, choreography could make it pretty kick ass.

All in all, I'm pretty damn excited about this!

Love Pirate movies, bring it on, just don't add monsters like POTC.

There are shots in the original Captain Blood where you can see exactly where Disney took their cues for the "Pirates" ride. An awesome movie! I think Noyce is a great choice and will do a really good job.
