We've seen different variations of Alexandre Dumas' classic revenge tale "The Count of Monte Cristo" over the years in Hollywood. Some have been direct remakes while others have taken themes from the novel and translated it new genre territory. This news would be filed under the latter, with HR reporting that Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy's highly sought-after script Once Upon a Time in Hell has been sold to Phoenix Pictures. David Thwaites and Mike Medavoy of Phoenix are producing along with Michael Connolly of Mad Hatter Entertainment, which reps the writers.
Plot Concept: Based on Alexandre Dumas' classic novel, "Hell" updates the story to modern London's organized crime underworld.
"We want to do a very slick, Hollywood-style underground gangster film," said Thwaites, pointing to Michael Mann's L.A.-set films "Heat" and "Collateral" as tonal inspiration for "Hell."
Shipman and McGreevy also have fashioned their adventure script Pendragon, a pitch they sold to New Regency, from the raw material of Arthurian legend. Their spin involves providing the key Camelot characters -- Arthur, Lancelot, Guinevere, Galahad, et al. -- with origin stories, much like last summer's Star Trek reboot.

I hope it does not look like "Heat" or "Collateral". London has a look all its own New and Old mixed with Dirty. This is what makes London a great setting and I pray they hold on to that.
