Date: Thursday, June 19, 2003

The 2003 MTV Movie Awards aired June 5th from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Among the screaming of the fans the many celebrities and music stars strolled down the blue carpet and Cinescape was there!

And the winners were:

Best Movie THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS

The award was presented by Keanu Reeves with Andy Richter, playing a disgruntled PA when Keanu would say the word "Whoa." Accepting the award was Elijah Wood, Sean Astin and Billy Boyd on behalf of Peter Jackson. The humble Hobbits stated that Peter should be up here and told the audience they were sorry about Gollum's misbehavior. In the press room Astin said he warned people about the guy (referring to Gollum) and Boyd said the hardest part about filming The Lord Of The Rings was 13 hour days in hobbit feet.

Best Male Performance Eminem 8 MILE

The award was presented by Demi Moore and Eminem accepted the award via tape from the recording studio.

Best Female Performance Kirsten Dunst SPIDER-MAN

Presenters: Harrison Ford and Josh Hartnett

Best On-Screen Team Elijah Wood, Sean Astin and Gollum THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS

The award was presented by Alyson Hannigan and Jason Biggs. In the press room the RINGS stars stated that as a team it was a year on and a year off. Gollum couldn't be here because he smells and he's too offensive for the crowd and his ass is bony!

Best Comedic Performance Mike Myers AUSTIN POWERS IN GOLDMEMBER

The award was presented by Martin Lawrence and Will Smith.

Best Villain Daveigh Chase (Samara Morgan) THE RING

The award was presented by Ashton Kutcher and P. Diddy. In the press room Chase stated it was an exciting and happy time for her and she didn't expect it. Her part in the movie didn't scare her while filming, but did when she saw the film. What scared her most in horror movies was THE SHINING, it apparently freaked her out. She has a new project for TV, ALTERED BEING, and hopes there's a sequel to THE RING. Her favorite film is MAID IN MANHATTAN.

Breakthrough Performance Male Eminem 8 MILE

The award was presented by Beyonce Knowles and Johnny Knoxville and Eminem accepted via tape.

Breakthrough Performance Female Jennifer Garner DAREDEVIL

The award was presented by Hugh Jackman and Famke Janssen. In the press room Jennifer told the press that there will be a new DAREDEVIL next summer and more to come with ELEKTRA. Her breakup with Scott Foley was not the easiest but she has had the support of her family and friends.

Best Kiss Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst SPIDER-MAN

Presenters were Queen Latifah and Adrien Brody. During the presenting she turned the tables on Brody and kissed him as he did with Halle Berry at the Oscars.

Best Action Sequence THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS The Battle for Helms Deep.

Presenters were Tyrese and Paul Walker. Peter Jackson accepted by video and commented that he was amazed how hard it is to shoot and applauded the actors who doubled for Viggo Mortensen.

Best Fight Yoda vs. Christopher Lee STAR WARS EPISODE II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES

Presenters Samuel L. Jackson and Will Ferrell. Accepting was Yoda via tape. In the press room Jackson stated that he leaves July 3 for Sydney to begin work on the next episode and he was happy to be a presenter and in a movie with Yoda, as well as part of the STAR WARS family. His advice to young actors was to hold to the dream and stay determined. Forget about fame and fortune, become a better actor and don't be afraid of failure.

Best Virtual Performance Gollum THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS

Presenters were Luke Wilson and Kate Hudson. Andy Serkis accepted for Gollum via tape from New Zealand. Serkis thanked everyone who worked so hard and then he was interrupted by his alter ego Gollum who went into a raving, mad speech about...my precious (referring to the award).

Transatlantic Breakthrough Colin Farrell for PHONE BOOTH

Presenters Victoria and David Beckham.

At the end of the night the hosts Justin Timberlake and Seann William Scott came into the press room to the many press that were waiting.

Timberlake Hosting was fun. Didn't find Seann embarrassed with his face emblazoned on his underwear. Talked about his new release Justified and what's important to him is fans coming up and commenting on what musical tracks meant something special to them. 'NSync is planning to go back in the studio at the end of the year and sharing the current tour with Christine Aguliera is fine. He wants to make arena shows more intimate with lighting...like a smoky lounge.

Scott His next upcoming movie is THE RUNDOWN with The Rock. He predicts that The Rock will be bigger than ever after it's release. The best movies out of his career have been in comedies and his favorite music includes Radiohead and Coldplay.
