Recently FOX held the 2003 Teen Choice Awards at the Universal Amphitheater. For the first time, fans ranging from their teens into their 60's had on-line access, (through AOL and Teen People), to vote and have a say in production elements of the show. This resulted in a beach ball blue carpet, rather than red. The awards themselves were Tiki inspired surfboards.

On the Blue Carpet, Ryan Seacrest (AMERICAN IDOL host), interviewed celebrities as they arrived and Seacrest found himself lifted in the air by Tom Green, wrestled to the ground by The Rock, and almost left speechless by Jim Carrey's head wrapped in bandages, who commented he was, "not expecting to win and had had some maintenance work done, just a little nip and tuck." Dakota Fanning and Brittany Murphy were excited about the opening of their feature UPTOWN GIRLS, as was Jaime Lee Curtis, whose FREAKY FRIDAY, was about to do the same. Queen Latifah said she was proud of her nomination and work in Bringing Down the House.

David Spade was the evening's host, who acknowledged his birthday gifts that he received. Ashton Kutcher gave him a shirt and tie; Adam Sandler's gave a BIG DADDY poster and Keanu Reeves signed a MATRIX poster.

Will Ferrell presented Jim Carrey with Choice Movie Actor for BRUCE ALMIGHTY. Carrey said he was trying to stay connected with the youth of America, and it was time today to remove his badges, so with the help of Ferrell the unmasking revealed stitches on his left cheek and a detached right eyeball. Flipping his eye, to ease his dyslexia, he read his speech, thanking his daughter, Universal and all of his fans. Carrey also won Choice Comedian.

In the Press Room Carrey told the journalists "my face was a work in progress and I had spent the weekend in a lab." When asked who he is like he said, "I'm like myself." He also said he would like to reunite with Cameron Diaz on another film, and his favorite idol as a teen was Natalie Wood.

Tara Reid and Jamie Kennedy announced THE MATRIX as Choice Movie Drama, with Keanu Reeves accepting the surfboard on behalf of the cast. In the Press Room Reeves stated that he was currently filming THUMBSUCKER with Vincent D'onofrio and Vince Vaughn. "I'm very happy to win for MATRIX and I'm glad teens love it and glad the films offers a lot about what is reality."

Rebecca Romijn-Stamos and Jimmy Kimmel awarded Colin Farrell (who didn't come back to the press area and arrived after the show started) with Choice Movie Villain for his work in DAREDEVIL.
