Star Wars Rebels: The Inquisitor

The Next Great Villian

By Robert T. Trate     October 13, 2013
Source: Lucasfilm/ NYCC 2013

We have our new villain! Pablo Hidalgo hosted the Star Wars Rebels panel to a packed house at the New York Comic Con. Hidalgo premiered a ton of new ships and concept art from the series. Another great fact was we now know there will be 14 years between Episode III and Star Wars Rebels. Which gives us 4 to 5 years between the Star Wars of Rebels and Episode IV. There was no footage shown, as production is about to get underway. What he did reveal was a huge assortment of the Empire’s army, weapons, and vehicles. At the end he debuted The Inquisitor. Check out the press release after the picture below.

Official Press Release: The next great villain from a galaxy far, far away is here. Fans attending Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Rebels panel today at New York Comic Con got the world’s first look at the Inquisitor, a black-clad, intimidating figure who will play a prominent role in the upcoming animated series.

In a new video screened at the end of the panel, Star Wars Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni officially revealed the character, showing design sketches, a sculpted maquette, and disclosing that the Inquisitor is “tasked by Darth Vader to hunt down the remaining Jedi Knights.”

Here is the video that was shown at the NYCC:

The panel, hosted by Lucasfilm’s Pablo Hidalgo, focused on the Empire and how it is central to the story of Star Wars Rebels. Hidalgo revealed that the series takes place about 14 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, a time in which the Emperor’s rule is secure and the Empire is seeking to expand its power to Outer Rim territories.  Further details about the panel can be found onwww.starwars.com.

If anything was made clear at today’s panel, it’s that the Empire is back -- thanks to Star Wars Rebels.

Star Wars Rebels is scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel, it will be followed by a series on Disney XD channels around the world.

Giddyup.  A sure fire way to have big ratings for a season finale for this series will be to have Episode IV characters appear in cameos or special story arcs in this show.  e.g Vader, Palpatine, Tarkin, etc.  Would love to see Admiral Thrawn or Mara Jade but am probably wishing for the moon on that one...

Would also finally love to see a Han Solo / Chewbacca storyline, especially how Han rescues Chewy and incurs the Wookie life debt as this has never been done even in the EU (that was the whole reason I read the A.C Crispin novels in the 90s, only to discover that event isn't in them!)  My guess, however, is that will be saved for the Han Solo prequel movie and not for Rebels.

I think if it lasted long enough they could show events after Star Wars A New Hope so maybe showing the Rebels escape after the destruction of the Death Star. Maybe show events that led the Rebels to Hoth.

 It's Kratos!

Looks nice, I hope that they don't make the storm trooper stupid as the droids in clone wars, hope to see some of the clones in action against the rebels.

So much for the always be an apprentence and a Master Sith only rule.

Dazzler, the address that in the youtube video I thought.  There are dark side force users, but technichally there are only two Sith, Vader and The Emperor (Sidious).  They don't teach everything they know to their lackeys.  I kind of agree it's splitting hairs, but that's how they explain it.  Technichally they did that in the Clone Wars too with Asage Ventress, Darth Maul's brother Savage Opress, and probably other's I can't think of right now.  Only Darth Sidious and Darth Tyranus (Count Dooku), were Sith.

I wonder if this is supposed to be High Inquisitor Tremayne. It would be great if they took their story lines from the Tales from... series of books. It would be neat to see the likes of Fenig Nabon and Ghitsa Dodger on screen. Or we could see the Inquisitor track down Adalric Brandl.

I know they'll probably explain why come the Original Trilogy, Vader and Palpatine are the only bad Jedi and Obi Wan is the only one who (eventually) comes out of hiding.  But I'm getting tired of the "Dark Jedi of the Week" feel that came from Clone Wars, and now, it looks like, Rebels.  They could have gotten away from the now cliched facial-tattooed, double-lightsaber (Ooh!  Look!  This one has a round thingie around the hilt!) bad guy.  Why couldn't this be about, you know, Rebels, fighting Imperials.  Just cause they don't have Force powers doesn't mean they're boring.

What goldeneye said. This guy is NOT a full Sith Lord. Neither was Ventress. Nor any other the other servants of Siddious. The only other one's that were Sith Lords were Maul and Dooku.

Mara Jade is another great example of this was Mara Jade who was an Emperor's Hand, but NOT a full Sith Lord. There are lots of other dark kinds of Force Users too, such as Dark Jedi.
