Picturehouse has acquired the rights to the upcoming thriller, The Orphanage, a film directed by newcomer J.A. Bayona and produced by Guillermo del Toro.

The movie centers on Laura, who purchases her beloved childhood orphanage with dreams of restoring and reopening the long-abandoned facility as a place for disabled children. Once there, she discovers that the new environment awakens her son's imagination, but the ongoing fantasy games he plays with an invisible friend quickly turn into something more disturbing.

"Bayona has captured some very moody and terrifying footage that just blew me away," del Toro said.

KJ's Take:  I like it.  Sounds like this could be a really cool film.  The promo footage was shown at a recent festival and supposedly really blew away the companies president.  Should be something to look forward to.

This actually sounds pretty original and good. After seeing Pans Labyrinth and having del toro attached to this, i def see good stuff happening for this film, or so i hope.
