On a strange and remote planet, alien captain Olimar is having more adventures with the Pikmin. The sequel to Nintendo's best-selling GameCube title, PIKMIN 2 arrived on store shelves yesterday and continues the storyline begun in Shigeru Miyamoto's 2001 mass-strategy video game. This time Olimar and his assistant Louie are using the Pikmin to help save their company, Hocotate Freight, from bankruptcy, but the dangers have grown. Poisonous white Pikmin now lurk about and new creatures challenge Olimar and his friends from accomplishing their missions.
PIKMIN 2 has dropped the time limit feature that made up the gameplay for the original PIKMIN. Players can now fully explore the world, venturing off to explore distant areas and even subterranean cave environments. As well, a split-screen battle mode lets two players wage war against each other's Pikmin armies. Gamers can also toggle between controlling Olimar and Louie, using each character's skills to solve puzzles.
PIKMIN 2 has been rated E (Everyone) by the ESRB and carries a suggested retail price of $49.99. Additional information can be found at the game's official website located at www.pikmin.com.
