I saw Pirates of the carbs also.

I liked it alot, made up for last two films for me.  I would have liked a big ship battle but oh well.  Mermaids were smokin hot!  There is an after credit scene also if interested, not a big deal or setup for next one.

MovieGuy, if you feel you have to apologise for a joke, don't make it in the first place.

Caveman, it's a question of expectations.  I expected POC to be a humorous fantasy with lots of action and fantastic FX.  I saw it to watch Depp buckle on his swash, romance pretty girls, fight duels with swords, encounter fantastic creatures and battle foes who commanded black magic.  That's exactly what I saw.  I didn't sweat the obvious questions (How did Sparrow catch that "wild" boar and why was it so clean, Why didn't Barbosa's wooden leg crack during all that action if it was weakened by having a flask full of rum inside it, etc).  It was a comedic fantasy movie.  That's what I wanted and that's what I got.

Unfortunately, that's also what I got from that Star Trek film.  I got lots of action, Kirk in hand to hand combat with Romulans, explosions, black magic black hole creation devices, watching with the naked eye while Vulcan was destroyed by a black hole from a planet in another solar system and Scotty being sucked through water filled pipes in the engine room.  But Star Trek isn't SUPPOSED to be a comedic fantasy movie.  Yes, it can, at times, have humor and should have lots of action and derring do.  But it should be SCIENCE fiction and should at least make an honest try at not insulting our intelligence.

It's like comparing ST:TOS and Abrams Star Trek is like comparing TDK with the Adam West Batman from the '60s.  The 60's Batman was fun for what it was and it that is what you were looking for it's fine.  But if you went into the theater expecting TDK and got the West Batman instead don't tell me you wouldn't be a little disappointed and upset.

karthwardroid, Indiana Jones wasn't a somewhat effeminate slur-speaking man-thing that any woman would be able to impersonate easily.  So yeah, I got kind of tired of Jack Sparrow too.

I went and saw Thor in non-3D this weekend (saw it in 3D last weekend) and I think I liked it more the second time around.  I think maybe the crowd was more into it in the second viewing, but either way this one was a winner for me.

Went to see POTC with the wife last night.  Wasn't great, but wasn't bad either.  I liked it.  It kept my attention the whole film so it worked for me.  I did think it missed a bit if his Jack Sparrowness from the first film, but I still enjoyed it.

Kung Fu Panda 2 with the wife and kiddies next weekend hopefully.

Karas, I was actually taking point from Kevin Smith's opening platypus reference in Dogma. It's one of my favorite movies :)

In the words of Patches O'Houlihan, Pirates 4 'it was too good to be true and it sucked somethin awful'

Geez, I'm still trying to find the time to go see Thor... I wont see POTC 4. I hated the last two and loved the first one. I too got real tired of Depp's Sparrow for all the reasons you guys mentioned. I am definitely going to see Hangover 2 and since I don't have little children I'll skip KFP2. I'm looking forward to Capt. America but not X-Men 1st Class. I hate scrawney superheroes...

@Movie Guy- Im pretty picky about the kind of stuff i do watch especially at the theater- mainly becasue I hate the theater after one too many bad experiences. I surprised myself by going to see thor but I did it out of pure curiosity to see if marvel could pull off a decent story. (Which they did.)

I could care less about transformers, I just couldnt stand the live action movie even though I loved the cartoon. I will only see first class and green lanter when I can rent it because I honestly think the stories are not going to be that good. Not to mention the fact that I think critics will slam the movies even though Im sure they will pull in the numbers.

as for the rest of the year I will see Sherlock Holmes 2 when it hits in December. I will also see Captain America. And when they finally come out in the next year or two I will see The Dark KNight Rises- Iron Man 3 -The Avengers-

I will end up renting the rest of the films I find interesting. Its just a preference like I said of all the bad experiences that I have had with Movie theaters. In fact most showings that I go too will be a first showing Matinee timeslot to avoid the crowds.
