The Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy introduced us to ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl’ in 2003, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest’ in 2006, and finally ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End’ to wrap the franchise in 2007. The adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), Blacksmith William Turner (Orlando Bloom), and his childhood crush Elizabeth Swan (Kiera Knightly), are revealed, with recurring roles by several other supporting characters. Together, these three embark on dangerous missions that take them to the high seas and the literally the ends of the earth, searching for legendary treasure or to rescue their compatriots. They encounter romance, mutiny, sea monsters, betrayal, and countless battles. The beautiful production of these films caused the world to embrace these tales, and fall in love with their storylines, characters, and all things Pirates.

It left audiences everywhere wondering if Disney would create another Pirates movie or if the movies would remain as a trilogy. For over two years, rumors have circled around a possible fourth Pirates film, and were laid to rest in September of 2009 when Disney made the announcement alongside Johnny Depp at the D23 Expo. The fourth installment is titled Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Filming begins this summer in Hawaii, and is scheduled for release in May, 2011.
