Walt Disney Pictures smash box office hit Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, quickly became the #1 DVD as it sold almost 5 million copies on it's first day.

Starring Johnny Depp as that mischievous, heroic rogue Captain Jack Sparrow, this epic adventure directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer has taken audiences by storm. The film's theatrical opening weekend was the biggest in U.S. box-office history, and the high-seas Hollywood tidal wave continues with a worldwide box-office gross of over a billion dollars to date, making it Disney's most successful movie of all time.

The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest DVD was released as both a deluxe 2-disc Special Edition DVD set and as a single-disc DVD.

I don't understand this. I thought the sequel was lame. Not as good as the orig.

I have to agree with Dazzler. The movie was ok, a fun summer popcorn movie, but I didn't think it was anywhere near as good as the first film.

Considering that much of what Hollywood puts out there is complete, I'll take a hundred Dead Man Chests over everything else, even if DMC isn't quite as great as CotBP.

I agree, smeg & wes. The sequel was good, but not as good as the 1st. I think they tried too hard to give everyone more of what they said they wanted, but they should have just tried to make as good a movie as they could. I'm hoping they redeem themselves with the 3rd.

I thought this was one of the biggest let downs of the year.
I began to wonder if something was wrong with me because I wasn't enjoying it as much as everyone else. And at the same time, I loved Superman Returns, which everyone hated.

Realizing I was so out of touch with the pulse of the people almost made me want to quit making films.

Thankfully, it seems fft was able to read what I meant to say, because my comment should have said "complete crap". :) I don't think the movie was a let down at all. I was worried that it would be, and so I didn't go in with high expectations, but I don't think it disappointed at all, as it is %$#@ near impossible for a sequal to surpass the first (I'm not even sure Spidey 2 did that, as great as it was).

And I don't agree with any of you, I loved this film and it's my Empire Strikes Back of pirate movies! I loved this more than the first one but perhaps it was for little things:

Keira Knightly - I loved her shouting match as her three men fought, her attempts to catch their attention, and her chance to fight. I also liked her pout at the end that successfully displayed a traumatized guilt.

The undead monkey! Great stuff!

The shiskabob jump had me in stitches.

Davey Jones was fantastic! I was fascinated with his appearance and character.

The return of Barbossa. I cheered!

Dark! There was an edge about this film that won me over. It didn't work for everyone, obviously, but this was my kind of film.

Complaints:
The french guy on the rowboat's dialogue was too rushed, sloppy, and poorly acted. My being fluent in french and having lived in France for a few years, I felt his performance could have used some work.

The crow pecking someone's eye out near the beginning was a bit much for a family audience... just my opinion.

Other than that, I was happy.

Most sequels are never as good as the originals, which is the Hollywood norm. The fact that DMC is part one of a two-part story (to be concluded in AWE) makes it all the more ... unappealing. But any movie that is better than two of the D&D films is ok ... for me to watch and own the DVD.

The fact that this crapfest sold 5 million DVD's makes me even MORE glad I scoffed at it on the shelf and bought Superman Returns.

what i take away from this, 5 million DVD sales means 5 million people are brainwashed into buying their DVD's on the first day... in a month it'll be a used movie at Blockbuster for $14.99 and in 6 months it'll be $9.99. People are just used to the BUY ME NOW NOW NOW phenominon that is our culture. (example is the PS3 that just came out)
