The MTV movie awards were not funny at all. I was embarrassed for all the talent involved. Not to mention, they had the most distasteful short parody film. Why on earth would someone think a film about a real event, United 93, would be a good choice for a zero talent spoof? That film was based on real people and real deaths. Is such a recent and horrible tragedy really ripe for mocking? It was sad that it was recognized and people laughed. It made me sick to my stomach. That was the last time MTV will ever be shown on my television. Dane Cooke said it best....it was so bad, "it made me want to hit myself in the balls."

I didn't even watch it this year and I'm glad.

Pirates 2 deserved the award. It was a great movie!

Caught the beginning and a little in between cause I was watching the Sopranos(still pissed they shot a Soprano capo and consgliere) and Entourage. From what I saw, Sarah Silverman was funny especially the Paris Hilton joke, Hilton seemed really pissed about it. Anyway, I agree with Morgan, United 300 was tasteless although the last scene did make me laugh just a tiny bit.
What the movie awards need is to be aired in November. The movies that are nominated are always usually 90% summer movies and I think it hurts the awards to have year old movie nominated. I mean Nacho Libre for best fight? I didn't even remember the film. If they wait to october or november they could've gotten all the new films this year, Shrek, Spidey, Pirates. These movies will certainly be nominted for the 08 awards but by then everyone will be talking about The Dark Knight and whatever cool summer flick is opening that summer.

P.S. How can they have a category for best film not seen yet? The movie that wins is the one that pays to most money in adverstising to MTV? I don't get it.

Hanso, it really isn't an awards show. It is about crass promotion of the summer flicks. To actually make it an "awards show" would defeat the purpose.

BTW, is Siverman supposed to be funny? I mean, she is a girl...and boy does she cuss...is that it? Dissing Paris...now, tell me, is that the highlight? Because that is a very easy target. Otherwise, her jokes were lame and she was just as bad as those she made fun of. That whole "tail" joke and Transformers interaction should sum up her 15 minutes.

The MTV Movie Awards have seriously been going downhill for the last few years. The winners also reflect rather badly on the voting audience. People are quickly going to stop paying attention when every category is decided by a vote, I think it would attach much more significance to the event to have the winners decided by a panel of youngsters. It'd be an anti-Oscars, what with the average member of the Academy being sixty-five million years old with artistic tastes to match.
And for god's sake, get some proper comedians to work on the format!

are the MTV movie awards even considered awards? i mean, you never see on the front of a movie box "best movie by the MTV movie awards"

besides both pirates 2 and 3 should have won the "huge disappointment on a matrix scale" award

CappyMorgan, you are correct. Every single presenter is there to promote a film coming out in the next six weeks. This year with the Best Film You Haven't Seen Yet category they clearly have dropped all pretense of being anything other than a two hour long commercial. I lost track of the number of Transformer commercials and previews I saw.

Like most things on MTV, the initial conception of the Movie Awards may have been truly counter-cultural and rocking the establishment. Hell, Jackie Chan won an award three years before he was a household name in the US. Now, it is all about promotion.

Pirates as best film of the year? Thirteen year-olds have no taste.

Sarah Silvernan clearly looked like she was pulling punches (other than the Paris bit). I thought she was so much better on the last Comic Relief.

Dude, like I said I didn't watch the whole show cause I was watching the Sopranos and Entourage but from what I saw I thought she was funny. Paris was an easy target but it was still funny, I really don't know if that was the highlight of her performance because I didn't watch the whole thing so I'll have to get back to you on that one if I ever finish seeing it.

I had no desire to watch this, and I seriously doubt I ever will.
