Brad Bird, who recently captured an Oscar for Ratatouille, has signed on to make his live-action feature directorial debut with 1906, says the Hollywood Reporter. The project will be a co-production between Warner Bros. and Disney/Pixar, with the historical San Francisco earthquake as its backdrop. There have been rumors that Pixar has some plans to cross into live-action vehicles in the near future and this seems to confirmation that they will help production values for one. Bird is rewriting the original John Logan script. Paula Weinstein is producing the feature, while John Walker, Bird's producing partner, executive produces. Disney/Pixar will co-finance the movie.

Plot Concept: The story centers on a college student who begins to investigate the murder of his father, uncovering a web of deceit that has left the city vulnerable to the sort of fire that breaks out when the Great Earthquake of 1906 hits San Francisco.

A fictional story set against a real life disaster. Sounds like Titanic or Pearl Harbor. But it might be interesting to see a live action movie made by Brad Bird. I didn't see Rattatooey (yes, I misspelled it). But of course, The Incredibles is my favorite of the Pixar movies, and I always liked his Family Dog cartoon he did for Amazing Stories. We'll have to wait and see what this movie will be like.

At least this plot isn't centered around a love story like those other movies you had mentioned. This storyline actually sounds interesting and could be a pretty intense film. Makes me wonder if Pixar is trying to pursue more mature films or if this will still be primarily family entertainment.

Certainly not what I expected for a plot summary when I think Pixar. Could be interesting. I'll definitely check it out, just based on the pedigree.

Sounds like a great plot to me and I'm in for anything Bird does. I just wish Pixar would stop giving Lasseter priority (yes, I know he's one of the founders) and let Bird do an Incredibles 2 before they pop out a second CARS or a 7th Toy Story.

It's cool to see this article. James Dalessandro wrote the book, he was my screenwriting instructor. He was pretty worried about the writer's strike affecting his book getting made. It's cool to see that it's going forward.

I love movies and books that are based around actual historical events. I'll be looking forward to this.
Anyone ever read Ken Follet books. He's really good at doing this.

Jon41380...Dalessandro was your screenwriting instructor? That's cool...I read that book and it's great...I am looking way forward to this and though this is one of Pixars first live action cross overs it should be really good...

mlaforcer, yeah, he's a really nice guy. He's one of the "experts" on the 1906 earthquake here in SF. I guess he has to be for the book. This is great, though, I'm happy for him.
