A strong opening for Pixar, but I think UP will surprise us with its longevity as word of mouth gets out.  What an absolutely fabulous film!  I found it surprisingly entertaining, heartfelt and thought provoking.  So much more than a typical kids movie.  Pixar's best yet.  Maybe I'm a sap, but I was profoundly affected and engaged by this movie...and no one was more surprised by that than me.  I want to go see it again.  Gets a nod from me for Best Picture, period.  Bring on the Oscar.   I don't typically gush over movies...and certainly not animated films...but I can't help myself.  UP is amazing and wonderful.

 Up was a typical Pixar movie; entertaining for both kids and adults, visually spectacular and it had a story with some meaning. The kids and I absolutely loved it. When I first saw the trailers I wasn't all that excited about Pixar's latest offering and almost passed, but luckily the kids talked me into it.

I was disappointed in Drag Me To Hell. Harry Knowles gushed over this movie, but I found it rather cliched and just so so. I love Raimi's movies, but I was expecting a lot more from this movie. Making the movie PG-13 didn't seem to help the box office much.

I'm glad to see Star Trek is such a resounding financial success. I'm hoping a sequel gets fast-tracked.

Does any movie look worse this summer than Land of the Lost? Ok, maybe Year One. Land of the Lost will be this year's Speed Racer.

Transformers will own the summer and will pass Star Trek's numbers. I know he takes a lot of heat, but I love Michael Bay movies and really want to see him make the next Superman movie.

Raise your hand if UP gave you man-tears.  The opening was one of the most touching things I had seen on a screen on a long time.  Plus Dug reminded of my late golden, only he didnt have the talking collar.

Hobbs is right, this year's films are not the as good as last years. But the overall b.o. is ahead of last year's and we may set yet a new new record. Which proves once again that the bad economy is always good for the movie business.

I still think Harry Potter will rule the summer ahead of Transformers.

Still no 100 mil weekend openers and like I said before I don't think we're going to have any at all this summer.

Troopershades...my hand is raised high.  Serious man-tears.  I completely agree...incredibly touching!  Go see this movie people!!!

I wonder how much extra money was made by "Up" for the extra fee for those theaters showing it in 3D? As a 3D movie I was much more wowed with Monsters Vs Aliens, while the storyline of Up was the better story. After this one, I think I'm done paying extra money for the 3D fad. 3D is the new psuedo-IMAX.

I still think Transformers has best chance of the 100 mil weekend...probably won't do it but still best chance. I think the success of the first one followed by the people who discovered it on DVD like myself are more inclined to check the 2nd one out. 

Not trying to hate on the NBA hanso but I truly believe Stern tries to get the Lakers in it every year or at least give them the best chance.  You are right, we did have the 11 year gap but the NBA had the Bulls, aka Jordan to fill that for most part otherwise the NBA didn't make that much money in the years it wasn't the Bulls.  My plan to fix the NBA....get rid of Stern and start having the refs call a fair game...meaning if Kobe and Lebron can take 6 steps and not get called for walking then any scrub should be able to do it...then I would make the league get rid of at least 4 teams...Memphis, Toronto, Oklahoma City, Clippers at the top of my wish list....then make the season 70 games instead of 82...cut the number of playoff teams from 8 to 6 per conference, make the first round best of 5 and oh, the important one...all playoffs including finals should be done by middle of May. It shouldn't take longer then a month or month and a half to finish the post season..not 3 freaking months. 

 Yeah, I had tears in my eyes watching UP. I think you'd almost have to be a non-feeling bugger not to get a little choked up.

I think Transformers will do $100M in its first weekend and it's going to have legs in the theaters; biggest hit of the summer.

I've been reading everyone's comments on the NBA. I stopped watching when Patrick Ewing retired, but I was a teenager/young adult during the 80s and that was an amazing time for the NBA. The Lakers' "showtime" with Magic, the Sixers with Moses and Doc (both pretty nice guys, too), the Celtics with Larry and boys, and even the Hawks with the human highlight reel, Wilkins. I've tried to watch today's NBA (mostly during the playoffs), but the games just don't seem to have the spark and fun of the 80s. There are a lot of really great players today, but the game (and officiating) doesn't seem to be on the same level. Of course Stern wants the Kobe and the Lakers in the finals; that means ratings. Look at some of the finals in recent years with the less-than-spectacular teams...they stink. And I agree with Hobbs, traveling could be called probably 65% of the time, especially on the superstars...couch, LeBron, cough. At least, if there's no baseball on, I can watch the NBA and not have to watch hockey. Does every team in the NHL make the payoffs? The playoffs seem to last as long as the regular season.

"raises hand"...yeah I'll admit it, some man-tears were formulating there.  What a heart-wrenching opening, as well as other Ellie moments; I love Ellie haha.  Same with Kevin and Doug.

This is close with Finding Nemo as being either my favorite or second of all Pixar films.  Monsters Inc. (yeah yeah yeah) and Incredibles have been knocked down a notch to third and fourth.

 OWNED!  lakers all the way.  they will beat the magic in six and it will finally put an end to all those idiots that keep saying kobe can't win one without shaq.  ALL HAIL HANSO!....SON!
