Work on 'Wanted 2' is underway, according to an article discussing producer Marc Platt's renewed deal with Universal pictures in today's Variety. But first Platt will bring 'Scott Pilgrim' to the screen, and an adaptation of 'The Red Star' is in the offing as well.

According to the report, the producer will remain under the studio umbrella for another five years.

It mentions that Platt is beginning work on the sequel to the hit comics adapation with director Timur Bekmambetov and writers Michael Brandt and Derek Haas.

Apparently the movie is on the fast track although there are many creative hurdles to overcome, given the events of the first movie. However, the goal is to get James McAvoy signed on for the revisitation.

"The writers are at work already, and those creative discussions are taking place," Platt, who is producing once again with Jim Lemle, told Variety.

The article also mentions that the producers are also working with Bekmambetov on a Universal adaptation of the Christian Gossett sci-fi graphic novel 'The Red Star,' which has a script draft by Matthew Sand.

Platt's next film for Universal is said to be 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World', an adaptation of Brian Lee O'Malley's graphic novel. That one is to be directed by Edgar Wright. Platt is producing with Big Talk Prods. partners Nira Park and Wright, who wrote the script with screenwriter Michael Bacall ('Death Proof').
