What They Say
Ash needs help to get into the sweet-smelling Celadon Gym, so he turns to Team Rocket for help?! Then, all the town's kids are acting like Pokemon. Will Psyduck be a help or a big headache? Next, a beautiful Pokemon breeder is Brock's dream girl, but she's being driven out of business by the latest Pokemon fashions courtesy of Team Rocket! Which will win in the end--style or substance? Season One, Episodes 25-27.

The Review!
The Rainbow Badge is as good as Ash?s in this next volume of Pokémon.

An English stereo language track is the only audio track provided. The track is clear and distortion free, but the stereo mix is a simple mix that doesn?t have any directionality.

The video quality for this volume continues to stay on the good side. No mpeg compression related artifacts, cross coloration, or line shimmering is present at all. Colors on the show appear bright, except when the show is artificially dimmed.

Ash, Misty, Pikachu, and Vulpix take the front cover, with a spiral type background that?s orange and yellow. The cover seems like a cheap design job. The back features the four dancing plus a Psyduck, who will become the bane of Misty?s existence.

The same familiar menu consists of just a chapter selection scene where you can select an episode, the opening, or the ending.

The only extra is a Pokémon mini-comic, ?Pikachu Shocks Back?.

New Pokémon are on the way for Brock and Misty, though for Misty it?s much more of a curse.

The gang arrives at Celadon City at the start of Pokémon Scent-sation!, and Ash immediately causes a stir when he says all perfume stinks after going into a store. Afterwards he heads to the Celadon City Gym, but they won?t let him since they manufacture perfume in the Gym and they know about Ash?s comment. Team Rocket is also trying to get into the gym, but they want to steal the recipe the Gym uses for their perfume. The trainers at the Gym discover them, and kick them out. Ash finds them, and agrees to help them get into the Gym, if they help him get into the Gym. Jesse and James put Ash into a girl?s outfit, and get him into the Gym under the pretense of being a student. Amazingly, the scheme works out for Ash and he gets to battle Erica, the Gym leader.

After receiving the Rainbow Badge, Ash, Misty, and Brock head off to the next Gym, but Celadon City if so big it will be a while until they reach the other side in Hypno?s Naptime. They soon discover that a lot of children in the area have been disappearing over the past few days, and the Pokémon in the area are also acting strange. Lethargy is affecting all the Pokémon, even Ash?s. Everyone joins Officer Jenny in the search for the children, and they eventually find that a sleep wave signal is being broadcast from the top of a building. The solution to the mystery is close, and Misty will get to pick up a Pokémon in the process.

Brock takes everyone to Scissor Street in Pokémon Fashion Flash, which is also known as Breeder Lane. In the area, Brock is looking for a specific store owned by a Pokémon breeder named Susie. Susie is well known among breeders and has a Vulpix that is very famous. In the area, a new Pokémon salon has opened up that is taking away business from Susie?s shop. The other salon only cares about the outer beauty of Pokémon though, while Susie concentrates on the entire Pokémon. Misty gets caught up in the new salon though, and it?s up to everyone else to rescue her.

Ash now has five badges and is well on his way to getting to the Indigo Plateau where the Pokémon League championships are held. The episodes on this volume stress the lessons of learning about someone on the inside, and not judging them based on their outside appearance. We get to learn a lot more on how to take care of Pokémon in the last episode. Another volume of Pokémon for the shelves.
