Polanski Scores on CD

Harkit Records has re-released this week two classic film scores for director Roman Polanski.

ROSEMARY'S BABY (1968), starring Mia Farrow as a meek housewife caught up in a tale of New York and modern-day witchcraft. Krzysztof Komeda's haunting score is here for the first time in an expanded version with a remarkable 'vocalese' version by Polish songstress Urszula Dudziak with Walk Away, and rare rehearsal tracks by the composer. A sensational fully illustrated booklet with insightful notes in both English and Polish.

THE FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS (1967), starring Roman Polanski himself, with his wife Sharon Tate in a hilarious parody of the vampire genre that was lavishly staged with sumptuous costumes and sets. This official first-time release of Komeda's score is again supplemented by copious notes written by film music writer, Andrew Keech and includes rare photos of Sharon Tate taken on set by Polanski.

Coming soon from Harkit is a remastered reissue of Komeda's CUL-DE-SAC (1966), one of Komeda's earliest collaborations with Polanski, with many recurring visual themes. This expanded version of the music from CUL-DE-SAC now has an added vocal version of the main theme sung by Polish songstress, Ewa Bem with Bemibek. The score is coupled on this CD with the composer's music for Polanski's 1962 KNIFE IN THE WATER, whose haunting themes perfectly match the oddness of the film's deceptively simple story of jealousy and mistrust. Liner notes are in English and Polish.
