I had always heard the deal with the tower on the poster for The Little Mermaid was that the original artist hired to do the painting was fired, but before he left he painted in the Penis Tower and no one apparently caught it before going to press.

Honestly, I think kids should see Song of the South.  Even with whatever "precieved" racist messages there may or may not be, there's also kids playing together and having fun.  Black kids and white kids together enjoying a story.  They certainly don't seem to have problem with their different skin colors so much so that the main white child throws a fit and can't understand why his mother doesn't want him around Uncle Remis anymore.  That to me shows that children are and SHOULD be color-blind  and in the end they help the adults to see passed the differences in color too.

Betenoire, it puzzles me too that Disney would release this film almost all over the world legitimately on DVD, but are too damn afraid to do so in the US.  Well, I have my bootleg DVD, which is pretty decent quality BTW with no japanese subtitles and I gladly lend it out to whoever wants to see it.

Rumour (so grain of salt) Disney had planned to release song of south in NA on DVD. Also that bill cosby had recorded a narration to discuss the time and put the movie in context.

I really wish I had enough free time to be so damn offended by every little insensitivity (according to someone else, obviously much smarter than me), especially the retrocactive ones.  It seems like an awful lot of hard work to be so offended by so much, so often. What a miserable life that must be...runnning around in a tizzy telling everyone else how offended you are and how offended they should be, as if we are too stupid to make up our own mind about what we like and want to watch, do, or support.

Wow I saw The Sound of Music when I was a kid, and I don't remember it being racist.  I watched the clip and I saw nothing there that was racist.  Are they making fun of southern dialecs, I guess, but i wouldn't call that racist.  I guess I didn't even think he was a slave.  Wow lost on me.

Some people get very touchy about their ethnicity, especially African Americans in my experience.   I've had some bad experiences with saying something innocent which got misinterperated and taken out of context and some people were very offended.  Apologizing and trying to explain what I really meant did no good.  They WANTED to be offended.  Can't blame Disney for trying to avoid that kind of trouble.

Not to be nit-picky, but 'Tron: Legacy' is a sequel... not a remake.

Intersting article and I agree that we can't learn from the past if we hide it

...but did I miss something.  Cuz I have a TRON DVD....

OK. I'm lost here.  Are you / Disney saying that the original Tron movie was so terrible it would hurt ticket sales for part 2?  I don't get it, I thought Tron was a great movie.  And it wasn't because I was only 14 at the time.  I still watch it sometimes and enjoy it.  There was nothing wrong with the first one.
