A New Franchise?

I was never fan of The Power Rangers. To be frank, I think it was for the next generation of kids who watch TV after school. There is a mad following for the series and its multiple incarnations. So those fans will rejoice in learning that Lionsgate and Saban Brands are partnering to develop a new live action film. A film, they hope, which will be the first in a new franchise.

From Variety: “The new film franchise is aimed at re-envisioning the Rangers, a group of teenagers chosen to protect the world from a group of alien invaders. The Rangers have the ability to “morph” into superheroes and pilot giant robots”.

The original series, The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, has been in continuous production since 1993 and has endured with multiple incarnations and cast members.

What do you think Maniacs? Is it Morphin time?

I have to admit i used to watch this as a kid, but only the first series with Jason and Tommy. Of course now it's ALL unwatchable for me, so I dont know if i'd go out to see this on the big screen. I cant really imagine it in movie form being THAT much more better for me to be anxious to see it.

1 more thing, idk about the later series that followed the one i watched, but i found it stupid/annoying that the robots they would go in would NEVER fight on their own. They would 99.9% of the time just go straight to robot form by coming together like Voltron. Like WTF was the point of having them all get their own robots if they're NEVER gonna do their own thing??? *smh*.....

If Tommy comes back as the Green Ranger .. then I'm all for it.

I'd wake up 5:00, maybe 6 in the am to watch this as a kid. I always had a crush on Kimberly ( pink ranger ). So even though it would be cool to see Zordon and Alpha (eye yeye yeye!) on the big screen again, I wouldn't be able to watch the new samurai (or whatever the hell) rangers they have now a days.

Id honestly say, reboot the first several episodes and make those a film on its own. So we would still have the characters that started it all. Jason, Billy, Kim, etc. Tommy can come in midway thru the film as the green ranger, being summoned by Zordon and tells him the Rangers need his help.

Just don't bring back Ivan Ooze hahah.

Btw has anyone seen the show Super Human Samurai Cyber Squad? Now that would be something to reboot to film. Tron/Pacific Rim style movie.

I was and still am way to old for this but if it's updated and made to take on some kind of serious tone then I can see this being very successful and entertaining...

yup, I grew up on this too. Tommy was my fav. I'm all for this.

Why? Why? WHY!!! Did we not learn anything from Chronicle?

Teenagers are about the stupidest choice for people to have super powers. I mean they are not fully developed yet, hormones are going out of control and they have the emotional and maturity capacity of a Donald Duck.

Seriously tired of seeing teenager based films. This will hopefully fail.

Never was a fan, but friends with little brothers kept me appraised of the plots.  What cracked me up one Saturday morning/early afternoon was this:  I was eating at my favorite gyro place, and they had ABC on the television, and the most current Power Rangers show was airing.  The main part of the plot?  Everybody was wondering who the MYSTERIOUS new White Ranger was...SURPRISE, IT'S THE GUY YOU ALREADY KNEW!  Does each incarnation even have their own story, or is it just that simplistic?

<sigh>  This was a little after my time as a kid.  I always thought of it as a kind of Voltron rip-off.  My cousin, who's now finishing his jumior year of college, loved that shit when he was growing up.
