Power Stone Vol. #2

What They Say

The Review!
Power Stone is a TV series spin-off based on the Sega Dreamcast game of the same name. I think this show was recently reviewed in EX. The story thus far mainly focuses on the events surrounding Edward Fokker (the guy with biplane goggles), but the other characters (Ayumi, Rouge, etc) make frequent appearances as well. The show doesn't pretend to be anything other than a videogame-spin-off, and it does entertain somewhat. The animation quality is average for this kind of TV series (the disc is single-layered even though most other R2 releases that I've seen containing 4 episodes are dual-layered).

Technically, the disc suffices. The video/audio transfer is fine, but then again it doesn't seem to really push MPEG2 to its limits by any means. As for extras, there is none. Not even a menu. The disc is divided into episodes and chapter stops, but there is no menu to organize the actual layout.

The bottom line: I give this one a so-so rating. The DVD transfer itself is great, but the show content isn't exactly challenging material. I enjoyed watching it, because it did have some amusing moments. After spending hours on the excellent Dreamcast game version, it was also neat to see the characters in anime with a decent storyline. I may be being harsh here, but I'd say this: just don't expect a whole lot and you won't be disappointed.
