The official website for STAR WARS has revealed a new game set in George Lucas' space fantasy universe. Titled STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT, the game will let players recreate battles from both the classic and prequel eras of the STAR WARS films. Players can choose over 20 different soldier types from four factions including the Rebel Alliance, Imperial Army, Clone Army and Battle Droids. Each soldier unit will be able to use vehicles in their campaigns ranging from speeder bikes to X-wings or AT-STs. Gameplay will take place in 15 different kinds of environments and across 10 planets including the hot wastelands of Tatooine and frozen wastes of Hoth, the green fields of Naboo, the rocky landscape of Geonosis and the lush forests of Yavin IV.
Being developed by Pandemic Studios, STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT will ship this fall for PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC operating systems. BATTLEGROUND will allow for multiplayer gaming including up to 16 console players can battle over the Internet in one game or 32 players connected via LAN, while PC owners will be able to fight in missions up to 32 players over the Internet or 64 via a LAN.
