In an interview with STAR WARS INSIDER, prequel producer Rick McCallum says fans can expect to see echoes of the original trilogy in the design of EPISODE II and III, but that's about it for continuity. This diverges from some comments last year from prequel designer, Doug Chiang.

"They are really two separate branches," McCallum says. "They are separated by so many years. The next time the story is picked up, in EPISODE IV, it's almost 20 years later, because Luke Skywalker is around 20 years old. So there is a conscious thought to get us closer to that [original trilogy period] but we don't set down and attempt to make things look like they used to."
