But what lies in wait? And what of the mysterious girl who appeared to Collin in his dream? The Review!
Somewhat in the fantasy vein, a young man faces some trials to restore the soul of a fair young maiden.Audio:
For our primary viewing session, we listened to this show in its original language of Japanese. The mix for it is standard fare for hentai so there wasn't much surprising about it. Dialogue is good and clean and generally center channel based. There's some use of the stereo channels for music and some of the moaning and grunting as they get creative once in awhile, but otherwise it's the usual routine. We didn't have any issues with dropouts or distortions during regular playback.Video:
Originally released to video back in 2001, the two OVAs here look quite good. The shows colors are from a rich vibrant palette that's well used here and manages to avoid problematic things like cross coloration or aliasing. There's some chroma noise in a few scenes around some characters hair edges, but that was pretty minimal in general. The character animation doesn't quite blend with the background shots as well as some other series but it's fairly decent for hentai and doesn't look like their sitting on top of the backgrounds or completely divorced from it.Packaging:
Released on two discs inside the standard thin cardboard wrapper box, the release overall looks really solid for the packaging. Each of the individual keepcases shows the Princess character in some good detail in a prominent piece while other aspects of her are in the background. The detail for those is a bit less but still rather nice looking. The back of the keepcases are simple in layout with a section of pictures along the right and some surprisingly lengthy summaries down the middle. The usual round of production information and the bloated features listing NuTech employs to give the illusion of things being there is along the bottom. As is standard with NuTech releases, no inserts are included in these releases. The thin cardboard box, which is little more than a wrapper really, uses a different image for its main panel of the Princess character completely naked against a dark backdrop while a smaller image of one of the other girls is there. The back side provides both summaries and a number of the photograph pictures as well.Menu:
The menu layout uses the character artwork from their respective covers and has some obscured animation clips of the sex scenes playing in the background to a nice little melody. The layout is standard material for these releases with no surprises at all. The access times are nice and fast and as usual our player preset languages are ignored.Extras:
The only included extra on each volume is a series of stills from that particular episode in a video gallery.Content:

Falling into the category of light-fantasy, the premise for this two part OVA release is pretty simple. We're introduced to a young man, Collin, who somehow manages to own and run his own inn along with the help of two sisters, Pony and Sallion. Collin is finding himself suddenly plagued with dreams of a young pink haired beauty named Felina who begs him in her naked glory to help save her.
Collin wakes from this rather fun dream only to find himself stuck in his usual life of being the butt of a number of problems and usually being behind on doing what needs to be done around the inn. This lets the sisters beat up on him repeatedly and keep him in place. Collin's a decent guy but kind of a dork. When the adventurer Lily arrives to stay there for a few days, you can imagine that she's not all that impressed. She fits the standard female warrior type with short red hair and dark skin and an appetite to match. As we find out, she's looking for something to see or fight in the area and there's rumor of something in an abandoned cave on the outskirts of town.
For Collin, this entices him to join her in seeking out what's in there even after being warned to stay away as he's sure he heard Felina's voice from within there. With the help of Lily though, they're able to make their way deep inside and fight some simple creatures and discover a strange race of pea-like beings with moustaches. What he also discovers is the body of young Felina, a woman whose mind is no longer there. As Collin finds out from a vision of a holy version of Felina, her soul has been split into several individual pieces. To help restore her mind from its blank state now, he has to win against each of the personalities, from the savage to the sly, and then he can be the prince that she needs to bring her back to life.
A decent amount of time is spent in the cave as Collin goes and deals with the various aspects of Felina while also dealing with the other women in his life both in and outside of the cave. The actual time spent going after the various aspects has an amusing Pokemon feel (gotta catch 'em all!) while the sex scenes themselves are decent but fairly typical. Everything in the show is done with a consensual nod, starting from when Lily decides that after a big meal she needs just a bit more meat to fill her completely. Lily really does fit the stereotype nicely with her looks and style. Collin also manages to find his way into the arms of both of the sisters who treat him like family. What's amusing is that when he's with Sallian, they're both stuck in a place in the cave where she figures they're as good as dead. Sex scenes in the face of death are nothing new, but it's just the way she's so glad she's not going to die alone. Now that's feeling.
The sex scenes overall are decent but not terribly exciting or done with anything truly memorable. Each of the girls is well animated during these sequences and their performances come across well enough, but there's just something lacking that makes them really work in being more than what we've seen in so many other shows. The designs are good overall if a bit less than detailed, but for a light fantasy fare with a short plot with a conclusion, Princess Memory fits the bill.
In what's becoming a standard complaint about NuTech's hentai titles though, I have to say that I'm becoming increasingly annoyed with their releases as they continue to cut corners. While the shows presentation and actual content is fantastic, their treatment of the subtitle track is just getting worse and worse. While the track is about 90% accurate to the original script and the English dub is being faithful while adding more vulgarities to it, the fact that the subtitle track is being timed to the English dub is making it difficult to watch these shows. Segments of nothing being said but there being subtitles are become as common as segments where there's talking but nothing subtitled. The bulk of the story gets through but when you hit these areas it takes you completely out of the show. It's extremely annoying as is the increasing number of misspellings that are cropping up.In Summary:
While not one of the best shows out there, this is one of the kinds of short series that continue to be good for couples and those wanting to dabble lightly in the hentai world. There's some amusing comedy mixed into the plot with some of the secondary characters and Collin himself is something of a goof. The sex is decent if average and the performances in both languages are quite good. Princess Memory isn't something that will stand out on your shelf but it'll keep you up for a bit.
