It seems the drive to have people write-in "Jedi" in the religion section of the Australian census has had quite an effect on the perceived religious make-up of the country.
While the Australian Bureau of Statistics warned it was illegal to write in Jedi on the forms, it seems some 250,000 claimed to be Jedis when they filled out their 2001 census forms.
That would put Jedis as more numerous than Lutherans, Baptists, and members of the Church of Latter Day Saints. Unfortunately, the Bureau of Statistics has counted the entries not as a valid religious category, but filed the write-ins under "inadequately described" religions.
