Producer James Middleton has shared a few bits about Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins with Sci-Fi Wire. In the brief interview, he confirmed that John Connor (Christian Bale) will be a central focus in the 2nd and 3rd films in the new trilogy. He also said that Arnold Schwarzenegger is not expected to make a cameo in the trilogy as long as he holds office as governor.

"It's set after the events of 'Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines,' where we see the nuclear exchange at the end of the movie, and we show what the world is like after this event, and we show how people try to deal in a post-apocalyptic world," Middleton said. "And we introduce a new character, who becomes very important to the resistance and to John Connor, a new hero. It's really about the birth of a new hero."

He added that John Connor will certainly be a central character in the film as well. "I would look at him as a character that is introduced and that will grow in the second and third movies of the trilogy,"

Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins will hit theaters Summer 2009.

this actually sounds cool but i wish James Cameron would come back and direct this series.

Well, unless they film this trilogy back to back, I don`t see why Arnie couldn`t be in at least the final one. He`s done serving his final term in office in Jan of 2011. The first movie doesn`t come out until Summer of next year if finished on schedule. The next one wouldn`t probably come out until 2011 so there is definitely room for a cameo.

I could see Arnold playing the human guy that created the T1000, was that not in the deleted scenes in T3 DVD?

Just as long as these films do not interfere wih Bale being able to film his 3rd Bat-film. Having to wait 3 yrs. for TDK has been rough enough. If I have to wait longer than that I think my head would explode.

Flint,

Maybe that's why Bale took the role. He's contracted for at least one more Batman film, so it makes logical sense from a business perspective for him to take a role where he would be a supporting character. If he calls it quits after a third Batman film, his schedule would then permit him to star in more films, starting with Terminator Salvation 2. He could film his scenes for Terminator Salvation, and then go back for Dark Knight Returns (that's what I will refer to Batman 3 for now), and then move into being the focused star in Terminator Salvation 2.

I'm really psyched for this. This is really stuff we've already heard about but it's nice to have it all confirmed. I'd be really surprised if Schwarzie didn't show up in at least the 3rd film - Terminator Salvation: The Future Ends.

Arnold is too old to be in T4, even as a human. It would have to be a VERY clever idea on how to put him in there. They keep talking 3 movies but if the first one sucks who said there will be a 5th or 6th movie? Box office decides sequals. In my opinion there will be enough there but this Ronald Mcdonald "McG" as the director...well, he makes it anything like his Charlies Angels its going to blow chunks big time and no one will see T5.

For everyone who is worried about McG. I watched We are Marshall I thought it was well Diercted I was even more shock to find out McG directed it. If he suprised me then I think he can suprise me again.

I will not be impressed until I see the film and see how McG does it. But as it stands I am still not sure wtf they picked this guy.

Also, I think the only way to make this trilogy work is if they get different directors for each movie....Get a fresh perspective with each director.

Nemesis157, way to keep an open mind about the situation, too bad so many don't seem willing to give him the benefit of doubt. I think he'll do a good job, he's gotten some experience under his belt and with WAM he went with something completely different that will only help him in the long run. The studio obviously believe in him to entrust him with this franchise.
swansong, if the trilogy is actually just one long story ala LOTR as opposed to HP or other franchises where each movie could basically stand on its own, I think its better to have one director for better cohesion and continuity.
