Jon Peters told the Hollywood Reporter this week that director "Bryan Singer is working on the story (for the sequel to SUPERMAN RETURNS), and hopefully, that will be a script by the end of the year. And hopefully, we'll be in preproduction by, say, January or February of next year."

Peters stated, "Bryan is the best director I've ever worked with. It's very easy to produce or be with someone who's a brilliant, brilliant person. I equate my relationship with Bryan to the relationship I had with Barbra Streisand. Barbra was so gifted that it was easy to be able to adjust a little bit here or there. With Bryan, it's the same thing. He's a great person, and it's amazing cause he's such a sweet guy. He's almost like one of my kids, in a way. "

I in no way believe that Singer will direct the sequel. He failed us with the first and I do not think WB wants that to happen again.

Which means he is still off the Logan's Run project.

EXCELLENT!!! I can't wait. Superman Returns was the single best film of 2006, and I hope Singer can do it again in '09!

I know he meant well, but I wouldn't want to be compared to Barbra Streisand unless I was a female singer/actress. I was disappointed with Superman Returns. And no offense, but I hardly consider it even close to the best of '06. With every TV and movie incarnation of Superman (outside of animation) has relied heavily on Superman fighting against brain villains and rarely going up against villains who could hold their own in a fight. He might as well be human in many cases. Everyone drums up Superman's powers but we've been stuck with the likes of Zod's trio (SMII) and Nuclear Man (SMIV) to test that. I know Lex Luthor is his arch nemesis, but that one needs to rest a bit. It's over done. It's made to look like Lex is his only villain. Against Zod, it wasn't Superman's power that stopped the three of them, it was a trick (again, his brain not his powers). That really leaves Nuclear Man and while it was a valiant try, it came up short. Lets see who do we have OTHER THAN LEX... Brainiac (he is a brain villain yes, but with the android angle and the advanced alien technology, that leaves plenty for Sups to fight against) Darkseid (a fan favorite) Doomsday (someone who killed Sups, talk about a blockbuster) Parasite Solomon Grundy (has a lot of potential) I could go on and on. Let Lex rest for at least a few films.

Err, I may be wrong but wasn't Peters Barbra Streisands hairdresser?? Now I think of it, Bryan Singer has been looking very dapper lately...

Ugh, I really feel that Superman Returns sucked. The acting was really bad, except for Spacey, who was the only reason to go see the movie. I was greatly disappointed in the whole fiasco. Singer bailed on X3, which resulted in a bad movie, just to make a bad movie. What a tool and sell out.

Maybe, if Singer leaves this project, they'll get Babs to take over writing duties?

I know I'm in the minority that liked the first film, so I won't annoy you with my opinion. But, from a traditional perspective, visualize the fact that the franchise can only get better! And they have already promised more action... So, it looks like this will go the way of ROTSS in the sequel and kick super ass!

"Err, I may be wrong but wasn't Peters Barbra Streisands hairdresser?? " Yeah, he was. Then her lover ,and finally her producing partner before they went their separate ways. Does this mean he and Singer...? Don't ask! Don't tell! Despite some of the hatred for SR, I mostly enjoyed it and forgive most of its shortcomings. I think Singer has taken the criticism of the film to heart and will deliver a better and more well-rounded sequel.

As "good" as the script was for Superman Returns, Larry the Cable Guy might as well write the script for the sequel. At least that way nobody would feel compelled to watch the POS.
