Production has officially begun on Dolan's Cadillac, the next Stephen King adaptation for theaters, reports Shock Til You Drop. The upcoming psychological thriller will star Christian Slater, Wes Bentley and Emmanuelle Vaugier. Director Jeff Beesley is leading the project, based on a screenplay by Richard Dooling.

Plot Concept:
Tom Robinson (Wes Bentley) is a peaceful, law-abiding schoolteacher until his wife Elizabeth (Emmanuelle Vaugier) accidentally witnesses a murder. Jimmy Dolan (Christian Slater), Las Vegas¹ most ruthless and untouchable mob boss, never leaves behind a witness. Haunted by the ghost of his wife, Robinson transforms himself into an obsessed vengeance machine, pushing himself beyond the breaking point of mind, body and spirit. When the two men finally meet deep in the heart of the desert, Dolan's Cadillac climaxes with an amazing test of wills the ultimate duel. The Cadillac, which has been Dolan's armor, may just as easily become his tomb.

Can anybody smell "straight to DVD", and did are there any actors who have fallen from grace left to fill out the cast?

I have yet to read this book yet (it's sitting on my kitchen table) but when the weather gets consistant then I will tackle it.

What I can't understand is in this age of epic movies why there hasn't been anything on King's Dark Tower Series. That has to be some of the best reading I've gone through in the last few years.

Oh and I'm not a big fan of Slater.....and I will reserve my judgement of how he portrays an antagonist until after I watch the movie.

What I'm not too crazy about is that the plot is suggesting an action/thriller spin. Having read the story, which is far more meditative than anything else, doesn't lend itself to being something you'd place along side other crime thrillers. It's different. I love the story, mind you. It's classic Stephen King. But I'd expect quite a few slow moments in the film if it sticks to the source material. The teacher spends a lot of time planning, and less time wreaking vengeful havoc ala Punisher or whoever. I do like the casting. Slater is always good for the baddie. But I hope they don't add too much to the story that it only resembles a Stephen King story, rather than actually being one.

It's always tough to adapt King because he uses so much internal monologue and description of surroundings and events, rather than dialogue between characters. It doesn't always translate well. A lot depends on the imagination of the reader to picture the fantastic, which filming takes away.

I think there was a story a few months back that JJ Abrams was working with King to adapt The Dark Tower. Personally, I think the only way to do The Dark Tower justice is an HBO animated series. Between Roland losing his fingers, Odetta/Detta/Susannah having no legs, but then going todash with legs and with the flashback in Wizard and Glass to Roland's youth, I think animation is the only way to go. Not to mention that any child actor playing Jake would age too much to be believable over the course of several seasons or movies. And the material is too adult to have on a network or non-pay cable channel. But that's just my opinion...
