I see a lot of confidence in Harry Potter these past few weeks and I'm curious on everyone's thoughts. Is it because Potter has such a large following or because we're approaching the "end-game."

Let me know your thoughts.

Well, certainly surprised about The Proposal taking the top spot.  As much I both a like and hate Bay's Transformers, of course I'll catch Revenge of the Fallen, just because I'm old school, got to hear Peter Cullen and Frank Welker (who should smack Bay silly for leaving him out of the first film) and watched all of the spinoffs.  Most of which aside from Beast Wars/Beast Machines, were bastardizing and deplorable, with Transformers: Animated being the biggest offender and thank god that show ended.

I wish the final episode would have showed Sari getting smashed and yelping at the hands of Megatron or Starscream because that character did the unthinkable by being more annoying than Jar Jar Binks and Rosie O'Donnell combined.  Best part of that show was Susan Blu's voice casting choices and gearing towards more of the G-1 feel.

Raith, why do you bold your comments?

Because hes a moron.  Though,  I dont actually know what he said,  because I refuse to read all caps or all bold comments;)

I said from the early on in the year that HP would rule the summer. I think it's a couple of things, 1- the films seem to get darker, grittier etc. with each one 2-Like you said it's reaching its conclusion and 3-I think this has been the longest we've gone without a new HP since the first. This could go both ways, people's enthusiasm may have waned or their hunger may have increased, I tend to believe the latter.

The one thing that sort of surprises me is the lack of buzz, maybe they're holding back because we know Transformers is going to be huge and are waiting for that talk to abate before going full blast with their own campaign.

Transformers also won't be the juggernaut some here predict. It better rake in the money up front because you have Ice Age, Public Enemies, then Bruno and then HP. And even if at first it's not knocked out of first (I think it will be) the competition will take huge bites from potential attendance

Im sorry but what else is there after transformers that s even eye catching or jaw dropping, nothing much. I know people are gonna come up with all these movies and will swear by them but really its gonna get pushed to the curve cause of TF2. Bay has the rest of the summer all to himself and theres nothing anyone can do bout that. Now i know people are gonna dog me about that but cmon all thats left is GI JOE?!? Really? To me I think Sommers is taking this movie nowhere near the cartoon, & comics (both old and current ones). It looks like they just grabbed a few names put x-men 1,2,3 reject uniforms on em slapped on a power rangers script that includes cheesy looking hideouts and equipment and called it gi joe! I know some can the same for Bays TFs but at least the guy did some research. And by judging from the joe trailer sommers has'nt. If anyone wants to see a real JOE flick, youtube GI Joe Resolute, and see what I'm talking bout . YOOO joe bitches

I think the delay for potter helped build it a little, though I'm still pissed about that, but I think the movies just improve as they go mostly.

Well, fellow maniacs. I just came back from watching Tranformers Revenge of the Fallen and I can say this. If you enjoyed the first one, you will most definitely enjoy this one. If you didn't like the first one, then don't bother going to see it. I'm not saying that its just a rehash or anything of the first one. It is actually alot better than the first movie. The only problems I had with the first movie were the really corny scenes with over the top John Tutorro and Anythony Anderson. Good news is that Tuttorro is back and the corniness is there but it is pretty toned down. Anderson isn`t even in it. There are a few cringe worthy corny scenes but they are quick. I've been hearing that some reviewers said that they couldn't tell what was going on in the fight scenes. Let me tell you, if you can't follow these fight scenes, you are fully mentally retarded and need to be in a special ed class. The CGI scenes are freaking awesome! As far as it being too long, you realy can't tell, because there is something always happening. There is a lull for about 3 seconds twice in the movie, that`s it.

Like I said, bottom line, if you liked the first, you will like this. Don't listen to the bad hype

Harry Potter's got a lot going for it when it finally hits the theaters. There's the build-up of the movies that have attracted people like me that have never read the books. HP fans will flock to the theaters because the book series is over and they finally get to see this particular book on the big screen. And, as it's been written in above posts, there's really not much competition for it out there. Transformers will have already been out for a few weeks so Harry will probably run roughshod over the second half of the summer; although I do expect Transformers to have very long legs and be in the top five the rest of the summer. The marketing team positioned Harry just right for a strong box office take. I don't see GI Joe having any long-term staying power at the theater. It's do well for two or three weeks and then slide away.
