The heroes of G.I Joe may have a new President to work alongside, reports Latino Review. The site says that Jonathan Pryce (Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy) has been cast to play the US President in the upcoming adaptation of the Hasbro property. While the role isn't very large, it is said to be essential to the storyline. If this casting is true, Pryce will be co-starring alongside Dennis Quaid, Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller, Ray Park, Rachel Nichols, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Said Taghmaoui, Marlon Wayans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Arnold Vosloo and Christopher Eccleston. The Paramount Pictures/Hasbro production has begun under the direction of Stephen Sommers.

Plot Summary: The movie will be a modern telling of the "G.I. Joe vs. Cobra" storyline and its compelling characters that Hasbro created 25 years ago. The premise of this fantasy is the story of the G.I. Joe team, led by Duke, and their "fight for freedom wherever there is trouble" against the evil Cobra Commander and his Cobra force. This storyline was an instant hit with kids in the early 1980s, spawning a highly popular 3-3/4-inch action figure line, comic book collection and animated series. The G.I. Joe team will not be based in Brussels. Instead, they will be based out of the "Pit" as they were throughout the 1980s comic book series. And, in keeping with the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra fantasy, the movie will feature characters and locations from around the world. Duke, the lead character and head of the G.I. Joe team, will embody the values of bravery and heroism that the first generation of G.I. Joe figures established.

G.I Joe will hit theaters August 7, 2009.

I really hope they have one of those moments where some kids are doing something stupid and the Joe comes along and shows them the error of there ways and then says "And knowing is half the battle" Ya, ya put that in there somewhere...

You know what Forcer...as silly as it may come off, it would be a clever inside nod to the cartoon if they pull it off right. If they do it, its gotta be where its done in a sensible way. Not a flat and uncoherent attempt to give a nod when Shia used the "More than Meets the Eye" line on Megan in Transformers. They did tried those public service messages in Transformers G-1 using the "And knowing is half the battle" line, but they never aired them and only 5 segments were made.

Simple, do it at the end when the credits roll ... like the cut-scenes in the Rush Hour movies. ^_^ You can have a bunch of them, some which are retarded, like yes kids you SHOULD go out in the middle of traffic, just to poke fun.

I imagine some people will be pissed off that the all-American GI Joe has cast their American President . . . and he's British. Pryce is a good actor and so he'll do well in the role, I think.

I think we're pretty used to having American characters played by actors from other nationalities. Batman is a Brit, Wolverine is an Aussie instead of Canadian, Nixon was anotrher Brit, etc. etc.
I think the U.N. fans are going to be more pissed that they're based out of the Pit and not Brussels. Just remember if the Joes were run by the UN they wouldn't be action figures, they would be "sit around and debate figures".

Skyn3t...I just had to laugh at the "yes kids you SHOULD go out in the middle of traffic" suggestion. And that sounds like something that would come out of Rip Torn's mouth from Dodgeball. (oh the sarcasm)....Now we have ruined those poor kids. Now we know..."and knowing is half the battle".

I hate Jonathan Pryce's voice. He always has that same stupid way to talk for every character he does. This sucks.

Ok, now that we have the president casted, what about Cobra Commander!?!

Cobra Commander has to have the lisp in his voice whatever the choice. And no comedy please in the movie....I am sure it's going to be made fun of no matter what anyway by spoof comedy movies anyway.
