Earlier this summer, CINESCAPE reported that Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (SMALLVILLE's executive producers) had been tapped to write the sequel to SPIDER-MAN. Now, however, it appears that another thread has been woven into the proverbial web. VARIETY reports today that Pulitzer Prize winning author Michael Chabon (THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF KAVALIER & CLAY) has been chosen to rewrite THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN.

Chabon is the third writer to be assigned to the project, after Gough and Millar, and a first draft penned by SPIDER-MAN writer David Koep.

Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, director Sam Raimi and producers Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad and Ian Bryce have all signed on for the sequel.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is scheduled to begin filming in January, 2003, with a May 7, 2004, release.
