Superhero Hype has learned the new title for the sequel starring Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle/Punisher. The current working title is now PUNISHER: WELCOME BACK FRANK .  Filming by director Lexi Alexander is set for late September in Montreal. The screenplay was written by Nick Santora, Kurt Sutter, Matt Holloway and Art Marcum. The story centers on Castle going after a mobster and his minions in New York.

No other casting announcements have been made besides Ray Stevenson so that start date is rather curious. Same goes for story details though IGN has said they believe the villain to be Billy Russo aka Jigsaw character from the Punisher comics. They have a detailed and very speculative plot summary up if you want to know the story for the sequel. Just click on the link above.

I've also recently read that the title has something to do with Frank Castle returning to teach a bunch of kids in a Brooylyn High School. After killing some of him enemies, Castle will head over to the institution to teach the children weaponry, stealth, and assasin skills so as to use them to finish off the remaining scum. He then code names them THE SWEATHOGS. But as usual in any high school class Hijinx abound.

Weird, because the first movie was based off of the Punisher story arc called 'Welcome back Frank'.

So they're just going to remake the first movie again, only keeping the whole story about his family being dead intact? That's pretty lame-ass, actually.

I strongly doubt they're redoing the first movie.

I can't wait to see Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle...he's formidable.

Well there's a crappy title if I ever saw one. I haven't ever read any Punisher comic books, so I can't really suggest any titles based off his storylines, but there has to be a good one in there somewhere.

CaptainJackSpareribs: Who is redoing the themesong by John Sebastian? "Yeah, we tease him a lot, but now he's gots a glock, Welcome Back!"
Loved the Reference.

The title sucks and I don't know who the hell Lexi Alexander is or how she got this gig.

I think Punisher: War Zone would've been better and kept it with a comic reference ala Dark Knight, Man of Steel or Incredible Hulk. They could've gone with War Journal also.

Aside from the recasting of the Punisher, I don't see nothing good coming out of this flick yet. Hopefully that will change soon.

The best Punisher movie was actually called "Man on Fire" with Denzel Washington, he kicked unholy ass in that movie. If it's anything like that, where he's killing lots of bad guys, maybe throw in some dark humor, should be a good time.

What happened to Thomas Jane starring and Jonathan Hensleigh writing and directing? I liked the this movie a lot more than the one with Dolph Lungren. But if neither Thomas Jane or Jonathan Hensleigh are doing it, then I'm not interested. Lexi Alexander directed a movie called Green Street Hooligans, about soccer hooligans, and why they're such a great group of people.

I've never read a lot of Punisher books (a few but def not a hard core fan) BUT I didn't really like the first movie (anyone else) I don't really know why (I think it was travolta) (and the actor that playe his kid in the beginning bugged the S out of me. I think it was cool and I wanted to like it, I watched it a few times but never really dug it except for the action scenes , I also liked the scenes where he lived with those 3 weirdos (1 hot weirdo) I dunno, I can definately put it behind me and look for this to be one of those rare sequels that exceeds the original.

Actually, daforce, (just playing devil's advocate here), the first movie was really kind of HALF "Welcome Back Frank" and half screwed-up origin. I enjoyed the first movie, but it bugged the ever-lovin' piss out of me that it took place in the f***ing Sunshine State. But in the comics, "Welcome Back Frank" had the Gnuchi family as villians (I'm pretty sure). The only other thing that bugged me about the first movie was how they did the Russian - as in NO LINES WHATSOEVER. It was hilarious in the comics that the Russian was acting like this totally polite, nice guy as he's beating the piss out of Frank. Kinda missed that in the movie.
