The Pyramid Trailer

Found Footage Again?

The Pyramid arrives December 5th, 2014.

I have come to appreciate the horror sensibilities and style of Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes and Maniac). I have to wonder about two things for his latest produced film, The Pyramid. First up, the film features found footage. This motif is played out and needs to die and stayed buried. The second thing is a December release date. Not really the thing one would expect to venture off to during the holidays. I want to see more, but right now, the film is looking a lot like As Above/ So Below (see trailer HERE).

Synopsis: The ancient wonders of the world have long cursed explorers who've dared to uncover their secrets.  But a team of U.S. archaeologists gets more than they bargained for when they discover a lost pyramid unlike any other in the Egyptian desert. As they unlock the horrific secrets buried within, they realize they aren't just trapped, they are being hunted.

The Pyramid features Ashley Hinshaw, James Buckley, Denis O'Hare, Christa-Marie Nicola, Amir K and will mark the directorial debut of  Gregory Levasseur.

The Pyramid arrives December 5th, 2014.

hell no

the only thing going for it: more interesting geography/history than as above...

That damn Imhotep just doesn't know when to stay the hell down!

SmokingFrog77 8/26/2014 3:49:59 PM

Doesn't look very 'found footage'.

I don't get the criticism of certan genres have to go and stay dead. Why? Aren't all genres done to death? Cop. Action hero. Ghosts. Zombies. Vampires. Etc, etc. Why is it any different than all the other stuff we see all the time?

thezillaman 8/26/2014 8:16:55 PM

Mr.Jaw B.E, couldn't have said it better, you are so dead on right...

it looks so bad, I feel like they are in a amusement ride... no wait, it sounds like a great pitch for another movie just like this one.

Who wants to bet that last shot in the trailer of the girl being dragged down the tunnel is the the frigging end of the movie?

Agree with what you say MrJE but I don't think 'found footage' is a genre so much as a style, and it's pretty divisive. I have no issue with any genre or style of moviemaking so long as they are handled with skill by ther movie makers, which sadly is all too frequently not the case.

In short, it's the way a story is told that can turn a movie into a great one or garbage, not just how original the story itself is.

I agree with the article, the found footage style is lame and overplayed; time to queue up some Taps!

This looks like it could be cool, but I don't know how much control Aja really has over the look and style of this film.  He's the producer, not the director here.  There's a big difference there.  Think Spielberg's role as producer in Michael Bay's Transformers films.
