Quinto & Nimoy Talk SPOCK

By: Jarrod Sarafin, News Editor

Source: Usa Today

Both Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy talked about what to expect, both playing the role of "Spock", in the next STAR TREK movie. While doing a video interview with Will Keck of Usa Today, here's a piece of what they said.

"I think there's going to be a sense of guidance through this film and beyond," he says. In Nimoy, 76, Quinto has found a father figure of sorts.

In November, he will check out of Heroes to beam aboard Trek's 85-day shoot. He says 11 stages have been built on the Paramount lot, and two weeks will be spent shooting in Iceland.

"I really identify with Spock's struggle," he says. "We're going back to a time before anything (Nimoy did in the original series) was established. These characters are in a completely different stage of their lives."

The next STAR TREK movie hits Christmas Day 2008.

I can't believe Nimoy and Shatner are so old! Times flies.

I still don't know what to make of all of the rumors and news about this movie, but I must admit that I'm excited about seeing it next year. Revamping the franchise isn't what I would have done, but maybe it's what's needed to bring Star Trek back from the dead. I'm looking forward to seeing the new cast in uniform.

This is going to be interesting.
Star Trek goes the way of feature films, now that Star Wars falls to the small screen. Never thought that would happen.
One thing does bug me though, I surely hope the Tom Cruise rumor is false cause it would only ruin the film.

Well, they haven't boldly gone where no man has gone before in a long time. So as long as they throw in the key elements that make it Star Trek, i.e.- decent story, some decent space action, and overacting, I'll definitely be there. But even without the overacting, I'm sure it be just as good. Abrams has done little to disappoint me yet.

Count me out. Sorry this is Star Trek...we're supposed to go where no man has gone before. How are we doing this with a freakin' Kirk/Spock prequel or with an Uhura character thats been raised in a "houseful of brothers"? Houseful of brothers....thats EXACTLY the type of garbage Roddenberry wished to avoid.

Looking forward to this. It's just what the franchise needs right now. Otherwise it would be dead in space. I suspect the "houseful of brothers" aspect of Uhura's character is not something that appears on screen. Most likely that is a written reference meant to give the actor some of the character's motivations.

Uhura's character aside, the only disappointing element of this new Star Trek film is that it isn't a total reboot of the franchise. I was really looking forward to a page one rewrite and new interpretation of Roddenberry's vision. Now it sounds like this film is simply a prequel and that lessens my interest, but I still fully intend on being there next Christmas opening night.

Open Letter To Paramount:

Enough with all the press leaks involving phony casting rumors and the talks between all involved, as it is proving awfully anti-climatic in the lead up to the new Star Trek. Hello, just get on with filming the damn movie already!!!
