Quinto talks Star Trek 2

Bigger and Bolder

By Robert T. Trate     September 06, 2012

Star Trek 2 might feel like a galaxy far far away but that hasn't stopped Mr. Spock, Zachary Quinto,  from talking about it an interview with The Wrap.

“It was bigger,” he says of his work on the sequel. “It was bolder, I think, than the first one, and that was pretty big and bold from my stand point. I’m really excited to see what they do with it.”

What's in store for the crew of the Starship Enterprise on their next adventure?

“I feel like, you know, my work is done on the movie right now,” says Quinto, “and until we have to go and promote it, then my work remains done and I let J.J. and his incredible team of people get in there and do the work that they need to do now.”
Star Trek 2 warps into theaters in May 17th, 2013.

It'll stink just like the other piece of cinematic garbage. JJ Abrams is cheap hack with no other talent than being a well connected hollywood _ _ _ _ _ _ _-_ _ _.

Muenster...Your so full of sh*t it has to be coming out of every stink hole in your body and this is coming from someone who is not a big star trek fan...JJ Abrams has more talent in his pinky finger than you do in your entire body dip sh*t...Your comment leads me to believe that your trek junky who wares spock ears in your free time and is sourly butt hurt because you did not get the Star Trek you wanted with Abrams directing...Ask your mommy to change your diapers and get the hell over it already....

Yours sincerley, Eat Sh*t!!!!!!!!!!!

miaforce, this isn't YouTube, please save the cheap personal attacks for the juveniles who frequent those comment boards.  Not everyone cares for JJ Abrams take on the illustrious franchise, and while I wouldn't go so far as to call him a cheap hack I definitely count myself among the unhappy masses.  Abrams put a colorful spin on the Trek Universe, added quite a lot of sounds and explosions, but pretty much ignored if not outright spat on the spirit of the world Gene Roddenbury created.  I saw the first movie once and have so far ignored it on cable, I might go see #2 in the theatre, if for no other reason than because it is "Star Trek" but I'm not holding out hope that it'll be any better.

For all of you who hold to the notion that JJ "spat on the spirit of the world Gene Roddnbury created" (I quote you, FerretJohn, only because you are the most recent I've seen), consider this:  Yes, Star Trek, the show, as Gene Roddenbury did it, is completely different than the movie that JJ Abrams released.  But can anybody give me an example of ANY Star Trek movie living up to Gene's idea?  I still say the only movie that comes close is "The Motion Picture"...Star Trek 2 - basic revenge story...Star Trek 3 - Nimoy wants back in via directing...Star Trek 4 - Save the whales!...Star Trek 5 - F*** your search for God...Star Trek 6 - court room drama...

My point is, the movies have NEVER been as intellectual as the show...why?  Because while the show has multiple seasons to blow your minds and make you think about social issues, the movies only have 90 - 180 minutes to convey an entertaining story.  I doubt anybody would have been as pissed off about JJ's movie if he'd had a TV series to set it up first.

I thought JJ's movie was great, and I can't wait for the next movie.

I still think the overall story of the first movie was stupid.  They had the right elements, effects and actors but they did not use them well.  Their interactions together were good also.  It's such a shame the story sucked.

I liked classic Star Trek and JJ's Star Trek as well.  Many people act like the original TV series was flawless and biblical like canon.  There are many episodes that are downright unwatchable like Spock's Brain, Omega Glory and Way to Eden.  These and several other episodes are pure garbage.  JJ's Star Trek wasn't perfect but it introduced Star Trek to a new set of fans.  My oldest watched all the original episodes and Next Generation after seeing JJ's version so mission accomplished as far as I'm concerned.  I didn't like the Apple store Enterprise bridge, but the rest was mostly entertaining.

I love Star Trek as a whole. I still watch and am entertained by TOS, but TNG is by far my favorite series. I even got enjoyment out of Voyager and Enterprise. I have to say that I really couldn't stand DS9 and find it totally unwatchable to this day.

I thoroughly enjoyed JJ's Star Trek. It was different than Roddenberry's Star Trek, but I feel that this new reality it created was a great idea. I am looking forward to this sequel...can't wait.

I liked DS9 myself it had the same seat of your pants vibe that the original series sometimes had. JJ's Trek well I'll just say I didn't hate it. It could have better.

Hey, Muenster, why not tell us what you really think? (wink wink, nudge nudge)

I personaly have been a "Trek Fan" since the 70's as a kid who watched TOS on TV (along side my favorite show of that time, Space: 1999). Then my favorite of all the movies came out, TMP, and I loved it! WoK was great, but again, it seemed to veer away from the TV show more than TMP. TMP FELT like Star Trek more than all the other movies that have come out. I HATED Voyage Home, Final Frontier, Generations(because they destroyed my beloved 'D'), Insurrection and Nemesis.

I became a HUGE fan when TNG came out, especially near the end of season 2 and up to season 6. I To this day still love the Enterprise D the most, and Captain Picard is my favorite Captain. And not to mention I'd rather be examined by Dr. Crusher than "Bones" any day! LOL!!!

BUT, I will say, J.J.'s Star Trek was a lot of fun, with great chemistry between the actors in their roles. I really liked Urban's "Bones", and Pine's Kirk was better, IMHO, than The Shat's, as far as acting goes.

Was J.J.'s Trek "perfect"? Nope. But neither was TOS, TNG, or DS9 which were all influenced by Gene. They all had flaws, and a lot of episodes were total crap on a popsicle stick, but as one poster commented, those shows had YEARS to work on the "story line", where the movies only have 2 hours average to convey a story along with introducing new plot ideas.

I am very excited about Star Trek 2, or whatever it gets called eventually, and look forward to seeing what J.J. brings to the Trek Universe!
