According to a report via Batman on Film, Rachel McAdams may be offered a role in the upcoming Batman film, The Dark Knight.

Batman on Film writes:

Last week, several websites, namely my friends over at MOVIEHOLE.NET, mentioned that Rachel McAdams has been rumored for a part in TDK. McAdams was also said to be up for the role of "Pepper Potts" in IRON MAN. Well, according to McAdams fansite RACHELONLINE.NET, McAdams' publicist has shot down the IRON MAN rumor. What does this have to do with TDK? Probably nothing, but since 2007 is fast approaching, we'll find out soon enough...

Just speculating here, but IF McAdams does snag a role in TDK, what part will it be? What does this mean for the Rachel Dawes character and Katie Holmes returning?

The report was posted before the news that Katie Holmes had turned down the role of Rachel Dawes, thus further feeding the speculation that she may be up for either the role of Rachel Dawes or a different female character.

KJ's Take:  I don't think McAdams would play the role of Dawes, as that was meant to be a very small role and will likely be written out of the script with the departure of Holmes.  I could however see McAdams playing a different female character in Batman's life, but I wouldn't count on it.

Rachel McAdams is a quantum leap ahead of where Katie Holmes is. I really can't stand Holmes, to be honest. In BB it looked like her skin was falling off her face... She's gonna age terribly, that's for sure.

Rachel McAdams, on the other hand, is one of the most radiant, beautiful girls in Hollywood. She would drastically improve one of the few weak points from Batman Begins. I really hope she signs on.

Katie Holmes turned down a role in TDK? Because, what, she has a better role in another movie? BWAHAHAHAHA! What a loser! I guess her husband isn't the only nutjob in the family...

I like Katie Holmes, but didn't think much of her role in BB. Rachel McAdams is a brilliant and beautiful young actress and if she's in this film, I hope they give her character a purpose. In the Batman films it seems that the only purpose of the women in Bruce Wayne's life is to serve as a reminder that he IS Bruce Watne and not just Batman.

I hope they give her a villain character but introduce her as a small part in the dark knight. sort of like dr. connors/the lizard in spider-man 2. Maybe she can play Pamela Isley/Poison Ivy or Dr. Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn. Quinn goes better with the story since the Joker is the main villain. We shall see.

Rachel McAdams: Yes. Katie Holmes: No. I don't want to see her playing a supervillain though, Vicky Vale will do nicely, thank you.

This rumor has been around for a while. Since at least before Gwyneth Paltrow was cast as Pepper Potts. I remember hearing it in the same stories that had McAdams playing Pepper. I would be perfectly happy to have her join TDK, she would rock, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm just glad KH is out. She was fine. She was adequate as Dawes. But everyone else was incredible. The contrast was glaring. Regardless of who the replacement winds up being, she should not play Dawes. Bring in a new character.

Is it too early in the evolution of The Batman to introduce Selina Kyle? Could Rachel McAdams fill the role?
