Sony Pictures Entertainment has set Sam Raimi to direct THE WEE FREE MEN. Pamela Pettler will write the script, which will be based on Terry Pratchett's bestselling young-adult novel.

The story centers on a 9-year-old farm girl who heads off to a parallel world to retrieve a brother who has been grabbed by a nasty fairy queen. She battles the monsters of Fairyland with the help of 6-inch-tall blue-faced rowdies who wear kilts, speak in thick Scottish brogues, steal sheep and drink heavily.

Sam Raimi, Josh Donen, and Created By's Vince Gerardis & Ralph Vicinanza will produce.

Sounds like something I could rent, just to find out what those little buggers do to the sheep.

This sounds cute, and in the hands of Raimi I'm sure it will be entertaining for adults and kids alike.

Terry Pratchett is one of Sci-Fi's greatest humorist writers. His novels just ooze abserdity. He is quite funny. This should be really good and really funny.

i've read this book a few times, and it's priceless...as is it's follow-up novel 'a hat full of sky'...it makes sense for raimi to be doing this film, as the author is planning atleast 2 more novels in this series (the young witch series) so he'll have a whole slew of sequels to make if this one is a hit (which it will be..) anyone that has read even a few of the 'discworld' novels of which this is a part of, knows that they're some of the brightest, wittiest and most beloved books in print...in fact, i think the lastest sales records show that the only author outselling him at all is JK Rawlings (can't remember how to spell her name) anyhow, i've been wanting to see a discworld book made into a film for ages, and with any luck, if this one works, we might see some of the other subplots make it to film, the senior witches (wyrd sisters) or the city watch books (think the worlds first police force)http://www.lspace.org/art/kidby/vimes.jpg

Discworld rocks! I haven't read this particular installment, but if it's discworld you can count on it being entertaining.

Apparently it is a series of books, of which, this is the 2nd book. The 1st is "Tiger" and the 3rd is "Snake".

Odd they would pick the 2nd book in the series to start with.
