More news has crossed the wires confirming the thoughts that Sam Raimi and Columbia Pictures still have a decent working relationship.Last week, Raimi hinted that he may be up to returning to do Spider-Man 4 after a year of saying he needed a break and a few weeks before that, Columbia Pictures shot down rumors that Tobey might be replaced as Spidey, which suggested to fans that Sam and cast may be returning to that franchise after all.

Now, we have this bit to pass along. While scribe
James Vanderbilt is currently scripting out Spider-Man 4, Columbia Pictures and Raimi are teaming up again to adapt Dennis Lehane's The Given Day. The book---which will be published September 23, 2008----has been acquired by the studio and they've placed Raimi to direct and produce alongside Josh Donen.

Plot Concept:
The Given Day is set in 1919 Boston, with the city in turmoil as soldiers are returning home from WWI, having brought back an epidemic of Spanish influenza. Attempts to unionize the police department have set the stage for a historic strike and two cops take center stage.

Raimi's also working on restarting a Jack Ryan franchise of films for Paramount and overseeing a fantasy television series, based on Terry Goodkind's Wizard First Rule novels.

I know I am in the minority, but I thought Spiderman 3 was the best one, so I am hoping that he will come back for Spidey 4...also, what happened to him taking over the Jack Ryan series?

Curious to see what Raimi can do with Dennis LeHane material. I have been hearing good things about Scorsese and his adaptation of LeHane's Shutter Island.
