Raimi to Direct CLASH OF THE TITANS?

This is still speculative at this point but when Robert Sanchez says his sources are backing it up, I believe him. The remake of Warner Bros' 1981 classic, CLASH OF THE TITANS, was announced last year but no news has been coming forth out of the project. Apparently, that has now changed. Warner Bros has been trying to get none other than Sam Raimi to lead the project offering him anything and everything.

We know that Raimi has been laying low recently and has stated that while he would like to "produce" and "help out" in the SPIDER-MAN 4 project for Sony, it's not going to take all his time as it did before. He's been locked up in the "Spider-Man" series since 99 leaving no room to work on anything else. Last week, he announced that Sony is looking for a "writer" for the next Spidey installment and that points to Raimi not taking that task on himself as he has done previously.  His latest producing project, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, is set to hit theaters this October so it would fit that he may have time to helm the "Clash" remake if Warner Bros can woo him away from his other projects.

Clash of the Titans is an awesome movie for its era, still enjoyable to watch and honestly, still one of my favorites that I can watch over and over again. I really hope this rumor turns out to be true. I would love to see a Spiderman 4 just as much as the next guy, but Raimi does need to work on other things. This movie would kick ass if Raimi directs it. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed!

#1, I agree 100%, Raimi would be awesome in the directors chair for this one, It is also a favourite of mine, but like all classics, has become dated, a modern take could be awesome.

I agree, Watcher, it would kick ass. As big a
fan as I am of the original, though, I also
agree that it's somewhat date. Furthermore, some of the "cute" elements
scream for omission. I'm speaking here of
"Bupo" the mechanical owl. (OUCH) How
about casting Orlando Bloom as Perseus?

They just need to leave it alone. I agree Raimi would give the remake the right look and feel (perhaps even with Raimi using FX not involving CGI), but honestly I would just like Hollywood to leave things alone.
And Orlando Bloom? No way, Come on! (Though if Sam directs he better give Campbell Meredith's role)
Odds are they will go with someone who looks like he'd get casted in the 300… WB will ride that film's look out to the bitter end with this.

Clash of the Titans is still a lot of fun to watch, even though the effects don't hold up well. Still, anytime I get to see Ray Harryhausen's stop motion I'm happy. The guy's a genius. I'd like to see a remake with state-of-the-art effects.

Orlando Bloom? Please, no. He has no charisma.

Raimi would do a terrific job, but I still think Sony's going to throw truckloads of money at him, Kirsten and Toby to do one more Spider-Man film. Raimi's playing cool right now, because the negotiations haven't really begun.

I'd like to see a Terry Gilliam take on the Perseus myth. I can just imagine the world he'd create.

This could be awesome if Raimi directs. I would much rather see him do this than do "The Hobbit" as he's been rumored to be attached to that project also. Love Raimi, but not entirely sure he could pull off Tolkien. And Orlando Bloom? It's already been said...HELL no. He's great as Legolas, but really...what other roles does he play? He's the same person in every movie he's in.

filmnotmovie • Aug 03, 2007, 09:55am •
People, my people! Give Bloom some props,
now. Not only was he great as Legolas,
but the dude has shown he knows how to
handle a sword in the "Pirates" films and in
"Kingdom of Heaven." I think he'd be a really
cool monster-slayer. And speaking of no
charisma, remember Harry Hamlin in the
original? He was so wooden, that he made
the props seem animated. Besides, the
monsters, like in the original, are going to be
the stars.

This could be a great project...I would like to see a remake of this...and yes I thnk that Orlando could sit this one out......

hanso • Aug 03, 2007, 09:56am •
Okay a couple of things.
First, I'm glad Raimi is looking to do other things. Like I've said before, Spidey can survive without him. Unless they get Bret Ratner, McG, Uwe Ball or Paul Anderson :)
Second, if he's in the running for this does it mean he's off the Hobbit? That's a shame if he is.
Third, I think a revamped Clash of the Titans would be sweet. These greek/roman movies are hit and miss at the box office though. Gladiator, 300, Troy, Alexander. Hopefully this will be more in the hit category like Gladiator & 300.

There is NO WAY I want to see a CotT remake. Unless Raimi directs it. Then I am so there!
