Director Sam Raimi has updated on the progress of both SPIDER-MAN 4 and THE SHADOW. While the "Shadow" rights are fully owned by Raimi, he had nothing to add to the project other then his desire to bring out a new adaptation of the 30's pulp character. For the next Spidey adventure, he did relay once again that he won't be handling the "story" for the characters but he does have a hand in the progress of the film as a producer. Here's what he told Ryan Rotten over at Shock Til You Drop.

"Right now, Sony is meeting with different writers to try and bring a fresh new story and approach to the 'Spider-Man' franchise," Raimi told us, "so I've been in meetings with Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, the producers, and Amy Pascal. Different writers have been coming in and spinning different tales of where 'Spider-Man' can go from here."

Raimi added, "I don't have any news on 'The Shadow' at this time, except that the company that I have with Josh Donen, my producing partner, we've got the rights to 'The Shadow.' I love the character very much and we're trying to work on a story that'll do justice to the character."

Didnt they do a Shadow movie with Alec Baldwin in the 90s? As 4 Spidey 4,,,,I hope everyone comes back,,,,I loved Spidey 3,,,,I think it was the best of the 3,,,which I know is not the common opnion,...but I would love to see a 4th with the same cast and director. We will see I guess.

I remember watching the Baldwin version of The Shadow. I remember being intrigued with the original story from the 30's/40's, but not so much with the movie.

Also, Spidey 3 was ok, but I just cannot stand Tobey McGuire or Kirsten Dunst... I would love it if they were both recast (ESPECIALLY McGuire).

faithfully adapting the 30s/40s SHADOW would be good... but it might come off as Dick Tracy-ish or Batman-ish.

Personally, i prefer the SHADOW comicbook series version made by DC comics around the 1990s. In my opinion, that would make a cool movie, coz Shadow makes good use of his "minions" & not just have them as minor sidekicks

I'd like to see a non-camp version of The Shadow; he's such a great character.

As for Spider-Man, I hope Raimi comes back for a fourth picture, along with the lead actors. I was a little disappointed in SM3, but still thought it was a highly entertaining movie. Here's what I'd like to see in SM4...

Dr. Conners, through experimentation to regrow his arm, becomes the Lizard and terrorizes the city. To boost newspaper sales and the Bugle's image, J.J. hires the world's most renowned hunter, Kraven, to track down and capture the beast.

In the meantime, Peter finds out that Conners is the Lizard and begins a hunt of his own. Gwen Stacey, who has become something of a celebrity in the city, is now a local TV reporter and assigned the Kraven hunt story.

Spider-Man and Kraven find the Lizard at the same time and a three-way battle ensues with Peter trying to stop the Lizard from doing any more damage, and Kraven from killing the Lizard. Gwen and her camera crew arrive on scene to cover the story. During the battle, Peter saves the Lizard, who changes back into Dr. Conners, and embarrasses the proud and egotistical Kraven on TV.

Kraven becomes obsessed with Spider-Man and slowly goes off the deep end. Seeing dollar signs at the possibility Spiderman's unmasking, J.J. hires Kraven again, this time to capture Spider-Man. Kraven gets a battle suit from an unknown source to amp up his already formidable physical abilites, giving him the power to go toe-to-toe with Spider-Man.

During this time, Gwen and Peter run into each other a lot covering the same stories and get close, causing a rift between Peter and Mary Jane. There's also jealousy on MJ's part, because as her star seems to be setting, Gwen's is rising.

Kraven eventually discovers Peter is Spider-Man and uses Gwen as bait to lure Peter into a trap. During the battle between the two, Gwen falls. Peter tries to save her and...snap...broken neck and Gwen dies.

Peter brings down Kraven, almost killing him, when Mary Jane shows up to save Peter's soul and Kraven's life by talking Peter down. "Peter, remember Uncle Ben! With great power..." A tired and guilt-ridden Peter drops Kraven to the ground and walks over to Mary Jane's waiting arms "Comes great responsibility."

The movie ends with a pair of glowing eyes in the darkness watching Peter and Mary Jane walk away. We hear a hauntingly familiar goblin laugh. roll credits. What do you think?

Good concept... just seems like a lot to fit into one movie.

I agree that Kraven vs Lizard vs Spidey would be a good angle. Gwen as the third wheel just seemed like it was pretty much wrapped up in Spidey 3. Dunno.

Lots of possibilities out there.

Wessmith, I like it, good work. Maybe you should submit it.
As for Raimi, I'm not opposed to bringing in a new director. From what some have said in the past he could be having Spidey-fatigue. Just make sure the new one has a good grasp of Spidey-lore. And I wouldn't have a problem with recasting everyone else involved. I mean I would love for Tobey to come back, but that's about it. Plus we know that most of these actors are going to hold the movie hostage for big money, which in turn is going to jack-up cost. And as we all know these movies have been making less money with each sequel.

I so hope Raimi does justice to the Shadow. He would do better to go back to the pulp roots of the character and forget the radio show. The three biggest differences were that the pulp Shaodw didn't have "The power to cloud men's minds" just stealth capabilities that would turn a ninja green with envy. Also we never really learned just who the Shadow was because Lamont Cranston was just another alias as was Kent Allard (the name Cranston also went by). Also no girlfriend (well, okay, you can keep the girlfriend if she's played by someone sufficiently hot). Also the pulp Shadow was significantly more hard ass.

I definitely would love a well-done Shadow movie. The Alec Baldwin version was too campy. The Shadow should be more portrayed like a Freddy Krueger/Jason/Saw type character- mysterious and really, really scary if he decides to come after you. And of coruse his wide army of agents was not well portrayed in the last film.
Everyone seems to agree, wessmith you've got THE idea for the next Spider-Man. The superhero's identity being discovered has become a cliche of comic book movies, though. Kraven should be like a Crocodile Hunter/Man vs. Wild type TV celebrity with too big of a ego.

Let TotemPole Maguire go and ruin Robotech for a while.

SPIDER PIG 4 needs new swine, Alfred Molina was the only decent actor in the series and they kill him off in a poorly put together scene. Bring back Doc Cock and replace everyone but the guy who played Jonah Jamison.

I hope they don't do another Spidey movie anytime soon. The last one was PAINFUL to watch and suffered the same "over the top" syndrome as Batman & Robin. After 2 good movies, the last one lacked a good story, good acting (especially from the leads), and good directing (except for some of the action, which was good to see & feel in an IMAX theatre).
