Ratchet With A Hatchet

By: CAPTAIN GORDON EDWARD
Date: Saturday, February 10, 2007

Welcome to another edition of the Countdown, where even if the N-Gage had a new release, I would include it too. Speaking about overlooked handheld systems, it seems like the PSP has a few games coming out, which almost makes me deem this the week of the PSP. Since Sony still has been getting a lot of bad press lately, either about the PS3 or this system, I figure that they can use any good press they can get their hands on. As such, I am officially calling this week... PSP Mania. Enough with the pleasantries though, it is on with the show.

Backyard Basketball 2007 (PS2 - PC) - As another year passes, well seemingly monthly now, a new Basketball game is released. This one is a bit more childlike, so if kids are into playing kids, this may be perfect.

Ghost Rider (PS2 - PSP) - Can someone say movie tie in? Well, that is exactly what you will get with this Ghost Rider movie based game. At least you can play as a flaming demon hunter.

Chulip (PS2) - A bizarre kissing simulation from Natsume, Chulip's ultimate goal is to kiss a girl under a tree. It sound fairly interesting but I wonder if there is lasting appeal after you kiss everything in sight.

The Warriors (PSP) - An interesting port of the Warriors to the PSP. Rockstar has always achieved success with their games on the PSP, so I can see that this game will quite fun, just like their PS2 version.

Chili Con Carnage (PSP) - Are you looking for a Mexican styled shooter on the PSP? Well look no further than this game, where you can create maximum carnage against the local kingpin, after the assassination of the main character's father. It may be worth picking up if you are tired of Grand Theft Auto and SOCOM.

Monster Kingdom: Jewel Summoner (PSP) - Atlus is getting back into the saddle for the PSP, now dealing with jewel summoners that focus on monster collection and battles. Finally the PSP is making a move towards Pokemon. You will have options to connect with real life players, if any of the locals own a PSP as well, so that you can trade and battle.

Rainbow Six: Vegas (PSP) - A port from the Rainbow Six series onto the PSP.

Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters (PSP) - Seeing as Daxter made a great jump to the PSP, this game attempts to do the same. This time you will have both characters in play though, which should make this platformer fairly interesting, considering the series has always been a fun adventure. Since I have enjoyed previous Ratchet and Clank games, I am willing to offer up this game the title of... Game of the Week.

LA Street Racing (PC) - Do you like driving games? Do you like the street? Do you like LA? Well, this game may just be perfect for you! I suppose you can guess from the title what you will need to do in this game, so I will comment no further.

Kim Possible: Global Gemini (DS) - A videogame based upon the television show.

F-24: Stealth Fighter (DS) - This game should be fairly interesting, since the DS has made leaps and bounds since early flight games. With the success of Star Fox, one would cautiously hope that this game has taken a few cues.

I am still fairly surprised with how many PSP games came out in the span of a week, which makes me think back to the holidays. I hope that they overcome every obstacle in their path, because if Sony's trends continue... They may just end up going the way of the 3DO. Sure the system had great graphics, but the price was just too high to justify the purchase. Then again, they had a fairly decent line up of games for the system, which Sony has been unable to secure quite yet. Of course in all fairness, it did take a while for the X-Box 360 to accomplish this, though Nintendo was able to do so on launch day. Well, before I start to ramble off on and start up an editorial, this is Captain Gordon signing off.

Definitely can't wait to get my hands on Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters. I love this entire series and this game is one of the main reasons I nagged my wife to give me a PSP for Christmas.

Indeed the series has a reputation for being quality games, and this PSP game should no doubt continue it.
