Ray Stevenson's Warning for PUNISHER 2

One of Superhero Hype's scoopers talked to actor Ray Stevenson on his upcoming portrayal in the sequel, PUNISHER: WELCOME BACK FRANK. In his reply, he made it very clear the character will be quite a bit darker, dark enough that he feels compelled to warn kids not to ever follow his lead. The other bit he passed along is saying his workout and training regime is the most comprehensive he's ever done which is surprising considering the amount of action/fighting sequences he performed on Hbo's Rome.

Here's what he had to say on getting into Frank Castle's character:

Although i am still very much in the embrionic stages of developing and discovering FRANK CASTLE's character; what i can say about my approach so far is that I dont wish for anyone to walk out of the theatre wanting to 'be' FRANK CASTLE - Let me explain, I would be mortified if, for any reason, some kid at high school wanted to reach out and right the wrongs of bullying or rejection or isolation by deciding to "tool up" and take out the bad guys !

It is my full intention to have FRANK in such a dark place and do such violence on those beyond redemption that you should feel glad that there is someone who lives in the dark so we may live in the light. (and you cant wait to see what hell he brings to those targeted by him)

My training program is the most comprehensive i have ever undertaken and hopefully we will bring all his skills to bear - and then some! Sorry it is a bit sketchy at this stage but we are driving forward and will stay true to the essence of THE PUNISHER!

Expect the next Punisher to hit theaters sometime in 2008.

Well, this gives me hope. I was a little concerned because I liked Tom Jane as Castle and I thought it was a mistake to change the actor. Let's hope that the story lives up to this and makes the actor change the right choice. JD www.moviesfornobodies.com

I believe Stevenson will be a much better Frank Castle than Jane. Won't matter a bit if the script is as lousy as I suspect it will be, though.

The first movie was just ok, but not nearly violet enough. This movie needs an R rating and Frank needs to be darker and a lot more dangerous. Stevenson will do a good job.

While I haven't read the current incarnation of the Punisher, it's about time they really got down to his roots in terms of vanquishing the bad guys and getting into his psyche. The man is definitely dark, always has been. I just want to see the old skull and not the new one. They can give us a proper looking Ghostrider, a great Spidey suit, and Wolvie with his claws, just for the love of all that is Marvel, give me the old skull on his chest just once...

Thank the comic book gods that this will be more 'Punisher' style than that previous movie. Tom Jane was not convincing as Punisher and the entire film was a waste because it was less gritty and violent than the Punisher should be. Frank Castle is as dark if not darker than Batman and the only difference is Batman doesn't kill. I just hope this isn't a ScFi original pictures type of script aka not good.

I mean, after 3 (Lundgren, Jane and now Stevenson) tries they're bound to get it right...1 out of 3 ain't bad......oh wait yes it is....Again Hollywood...stop "re-imagining"....just give us what we want and we'll go away....happy that is.

Let me guess, the studio is going to chop it up to release it as a PG-13 movie to get more butts in the seats, and then release the 'unrated, extreme director's cut' on DVD, right? I'm kind of tired of the studios trying this new triple dip system of cleansing a clearly rated R flick for theaters, then releasing the R version on DVD with the PG-13 version coming out as another disc. And heaven forbid if there's a 'super secret extra special edition' that they try to release for the quadruple dip (Yeah, I'm looking at you George ' I have different versions of Star Wars out on DVD' Lucas). UGH.
