Resident Evil fans were more then happy to hear that there will be a versus-mode available with the game (first discovered when the trophies leaked on to the Play Station Network). Then Capcom officially announced the release of the modes as $5 downloadable content.
This upset most, if not, all fans who had purchased the $60 game already, now they were going to have to shell out another 5 bucks for something that’s included in every other game? Christen Svensson, Capcom’s Corporate Officer/VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development defended the DLC saying “Secondly, whenever we do PDLC, that content exists with its own budgets, it's own profit and loss analysis with its own forecasts. If it didn't, that extra content wouldn't have been put into production, because it did not fit within the production budget of the base product.” You can read his full reply on the Capcom forums
here. Many fans were outraged by Sven’s response argued that Capcom sets the budgets, and they could’ve easily rolled both into one budget.
After all the hubbub we were told that it was due to release at the end of March. Now,
Kotaku is reporting that the mode won’t be available until April 9
th. Could this mean that they’re reconsidering charging for it? Fat chance, but we can hope can’t we? Capcom stated; "We deeply apologize to those customers who have been waiting for this downloadable content."
Will Capcom listen to the community and release it for free? Will this set a new precedent for companies looking to squeeze a few more dollars out of their games? Who knows, but one thing’s for sure, Mania will be there to keep you informed. So sit back, relax, and keep your eyes on Mania for news as it become available.
I heard Resident Evil 5 was Michael Richards favorite game.
