Walt Disney Pictures and DreamWorks have revealed the first teaser trailer for their upcoming sci-fi tale Real Steel. Watch it down below and sound off with your thoughts. The futuristic robot boxing adventure stars Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly, Dakota Goyo, Kevin Durand and Anthony Mackie. Helmer Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum franchise) led the direction based on a screenplay by John Gatins.

Plot Concept: A gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future, where the sport of boxing has gone hi-tech, "Real Steel" stars Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.

Real Steel will punch its way into theaters October 7, 2011.

Thanks to monkeyfoot for the submission.

 yaay... ? what's the point?

Still not sure what to think about this. Some of the cgi looked questionable but there's still a lot of time left before the film drops.

This trailer disappointed me. I visited the set of the film in August. Shawn Levy and Hugh Jackman talked pretty emphatically about the kind of movie they were trying to make: a Spielberg-esque family drama about a father and son coming together. Sort of The Champ meets Iron Giant. They were pretty clear that there was more on their minds then just robots bashing it out, which is something that Michael Bay is already doing just fine without them.

So I can't imagine they're too pleased by Dreamwork's cut of the trailer which suggests nothing but robots bashing it out.

So their still making movies based on 80's toys?  Basically what we have here is "Rock'em Sock'em Robots" the movie.

1 more thing, get rid of that stupid Steve Berry banner ad!!!!!!!

I liked the trailer myself it looks better than the last Transpukers film.

No reason to be disappointed, Robbo. This is only the teaser and it was what I expected: an urban, industrial, gritty FX showing setup of the basic premise. Seemed fine to me. I'm sure the full trailer will elaborate more on the story and probably show more of the family drama.

I think that the drama comes in when the robot they build becomes sentient/self-aware. Not a mindless fighting machine but a thinking being.

Ye, it's Rockem Sockem Robot alright.
