This week it felt like a big weight was lifted off the shoulders of this series when Sam started dating the Devil’s daughter. I think there’s more to this new relationship than has been revealed yet, but for now we aren’t dealing with the constant push/pull of the annoying relationship between Sam and Andi. Now, eventually I can see a relationship between Sam and Andi, but I also believe that’ll be the end of the series. The Devil is constantly teasing Sam and he does it twice in this episode. The first time is obviously the money but I also feel like there’s something happening with his daughter. She’s odd but she’s perfect, too perfect. How long before Sam realizes that she is a tool of Satan to further push Sam over to the dark side? We get a few answers in this episode. Until then, I like this new relationship, and I like Andi’s curiosity about it.
The escaped souls this week were fun but they were very minor compared to the residue they leave behind. That residue happens to be millions of bucks. Sock and Ben right away want to divvy up the money and spend it. They feel like they all deserve it for putting their lives at risk catching these souls. Satan is in support of them spending the money too which sets off Sam’s internal alarm. Even before the Devil’s insistence that they enjoy the money, Sam’s instincts were that the money was ill-gotten and that it would eventually destroy the gang’s friendship or worse. Sock and Ben do spend some of the money with no repercussions though. The most interesting purchase was a huge pile of stuff that was apparently destroyed in a fire Sock set in Josie’s apartment when they were a couple. So, are we getting a relationship story arc for Sock? Will Sock and Josie give it another try? Do we care? I don’t know, I actually kind of like Sock how he is at this point. Giving him more character development and screen time is fine, but I don’t know if building in another relationship drama is what Reaper needs now.
Sock and Ben are concerned with Sam’s new relationship and the opening scene where they appear at the bar because they’ve been following Sam is hilarious. On a side note, the money seems to solve a lot of problems in this episode. The team uses it to gamble when they are chasing the second soul they have to catch and when Sock and Ben concoct a plan to determine if Sam’s new girlfriend is actually the spawn of Satan or not they use the money to buy a hot tub. So they decide that the spawn of Satan must have the mark of the beast on her somewhere so they invite her and Sam over to Sock’s house for a dip in his hot tub which is situated hilariously out of place in his front yard. Eventually, Sock and Ben convince Sam’s girl that they need to see her naked in order to approve of their relationship. She agrees only if she gets to see them naked too. This all happens quickly and leaves room for some funny situations but it just seems to get glossed over. It’s still quite funny though. Just as Sock and Ben are convinced Cady isn’t the spawn of Satan, Sam sees her kill some flowers simply by touching them. We were also given a hint to her heritage when we were shown the dead fish in the pet store. So yes, Sam knows the truth now, so what will he do about it?
