The Review!
Well...after seeing the OVA I had really high expectations of Lodoss TV. But after seeing it, well how should I put it, it was different then I had expected.

First look upon video and audio

After watching the first episode I nearly died out of shock...No not of happiness, unfortunately. It starts with a scene between Ashram and Neese. The dialogues (English) are just awful and the video too. Oh dear...probably Lodoss TV was a mistake L. I already paid for it so I watched the next episode and the next...(few hours and one disc later)...fortunately the dialogues get better and the video doesn't annoy me anymore. It's really strange, the quality of the dialogue suddenly changes. It looks like the big chief wasn't happy with the first episode(s) and quickly changed the next. While it still ain't perfect, it will do.

Although the video quality isn't very good, it still breathes in the same sphere I felt when watching the OVA. So after a time you just forget about it. When comparing it with the OVA the only big difference is that Lodoss TV is much darker, or better said less brighter and cleaner, then the OVA but the animation style is still the same. Something that got my attention was the quality of the opening movie, which I've seen as a teaser and which was rather good, what misled me. All is forgiven.

Little notice: I prefer dub over sub and I haven't heard the Japanese version and because the sub-translation is always really bad (with every anime) I can't say if the dialogues were also that bad in Japanese.

All right, so the dialogues aren't perfect (first episodes), but what about the music? Well it is certainly more like the OVA. The same good music, which perfectly supports the situation. The only thing what annoys me every time is that most anime are only Dolby 2.0 (and not 5.1) like this one. But it will do.

Story (second and third part contains spoiler)
When is video isn't in the best shape and the audio not special either, you would better hope the story is. Because Lodoss TV is twice as big as Lodoss OVA there is more time to expand the characters. And they did it well...very good. The first part focuses more on the storyline from the OVA and the second starts over with a new one. I really liked the venturing group and the relations between them. It made me laugh frequently. A conversation between Leaf and Garrick and a conversation between Little Neese and Spark (and when you have seen the show you know which one I'm talking about) and the way they act.

It all starts with a meeting with Neese. After hearing the bad news about Ashram planning to unite Lodoss with the Sceptre of Domination, Slayn and Lelia joins up with Parn, Deedlit and a new character Cecil to battle the dragon, which holds it.

A few years later when Little Neese and Spark have grown up, a new evil rises. Wagnard is planning the resurrection of Kardis the Destroyer. The Sceptre of Domination won't do any good in the contrary to Lodoss OVA. Story is simply perfect.

Better then Lodoss OVA for short. First introducing the most important characters and then every disc one "jumps" out next to the menu. The only thing that really annoyed me was the lack of scene selections. There are only two: Lodoss TV and Lodoss Island. So every time when the opening comes I've to press fast-forward or next. Besides that I really prefer they cut ALL the openings and endings and put only one at the beginning of the disc and one at the end. That's just my opinion. Besides that, just excellent.

No the s-button ain't broke J. The DVD-rom has a lot of extras including a very long slide show with the original video covers and contains many sketches AND very extensive info about Lodoss (on DVD and with a booklet). Cool.

The front of the box contains most of the main characters. Every DVD front shows a really nice sketch of the characters. My favourite is the layout of the second DVD. Very good.

To buy or not to buy? It won't disappoint true Lodoss fans. But when you haven't seen Lodoss OVA you should do that first and if you like it, watch Lodoss TV. Now I have the trilogy complete Huh? Which trilogy?
It started all with Lodoss OVA. After that it continues with Lodoss TV and ends with Crystania the movie. Very recommended to complete this collection.
