Russia, I could believe. China, I could believe. Hell, CANADA, I could believe. North Korea stretchs my willing suspension of disbelief to the breaking point.

Thanks to Chopsaki for the submission.

OK North Korea and Iran are the only 2 bad guys we can call out on film without studios suffering any sort of backlash at the box office so I guess I can deal with it.
I truly love the original. I remember people cheering in the theater when the kids started fighting back. The cold war gave the original the realistic backing it needed.
I know I will see this movie, but I have many strong doubts about it. I don't like that Hemsworth is a marine. The fact that the original group was just ordinary kids trying to fight back, gave it a great feel. This trailer made it look as though we're going to see some speeches from Hemsworth to motivate the group as well. Again, even though there was some motivation required in the original, it came in the form of just Swayze pretty much just telling them what was going to be done, rather needing to inspire them.
And this film looks to have a lot of urban fighting where the original spent a lot of time in the mountains, so I am interested in seeing how they approach that. But aside from the bad guys being North Koreans, I think the one thing that will make this movie really stupid is this "device" they possess that allowed them to invade in the first place. The device itself is not the problem, but to have this group fighting to retrieve it in order to change the whole outlook of the invasion completely changes the ideal of the original. Swayze's group didn't have any MacGuffin to chase after to win the war. They had only their will to survive and fight the enemy on our soil. I feel this will the biggest point that will change how I feel about this movie. If they can move me on that plot device, Its possible I will walk out of the theater pleased with my experience.
The original was about as believable as Santa Claus as well so I don't know why people are so caught up on the North Korea thing. Remember: It's just a movie.
what wise??? you have never seen the original??? wheren't you in the service??? this is like a mandatory movie to watch while your in the service!!!! Godamn I can't even begin to quote how many times i have heard the scream wolverines while charging up a mountain side in afghanistan!!! or had to sit through the movie which only ages like fine wine! You definetly need to see it bro!!!!
Holly crap, cue American cliché ''freedom'' speeches...huge turn off. Looks way, wayyyyy too preechy, the only thing missing is George W. Bush as President for the movie and this will be the years of 2K all over again.
HEY jedi American speeches is what have made this country great when it comes to victories on the battle field! I'm pretty sure patricia and regina must have done must have done something to motivate the armies in canada! and no disrespect to canada either as i have shared the battlefield side by side and its one of my favorite places to visit during hockey season and the memorial cup .
The believability of the first may have been SOMEWHAT of a stretch, but to compare it to Santa Claus is a bit dumb. There was infinitely greater possibility of the events of the first one happening than this remake.
I have never watched the original nor been interested to but this looks like sorta of like campy fun.
I thought the new weapon would be some sort of emp device but it looks like a laptop so maybe it's a software virus.
I'll probably check this out after I see Life of Pi
