Video game distributor THQ Inc. has announced that it has shipped the Xbox, Gamecube and PC versions of RED FACTION II, the sequel to its 2001 sci-fi/action shoot 'em up. The sequel takes place five years after the conclusion of RED FACTION where rebels tried to wrestle control of the Martian colonies. Corrupt Chancellor Victor Sopot is still maintaining his vice-like grasp over the people of the Commonwealth, and now the only hope left for its citizens are with six soldiers given fantastic powers through nanotechnology. The player jumps into the boots of one of these rebels, Alias, and can command the other five members of his team throughout the game.
New weapons, equipment and vehicles have been included in RED FACTION II. The incorporation of a so-called Geo-Mod engine allows players to affect the environment surrounding their players in real-time, creating paths or making movement more difficult if you don't watch where you're shooting. The Xbox and PC versions have beefed up texture resolutions and more multiplayer maps and character models than the earlier PS2 version of the game, while the Gamecube RF2 has new custom animations, improved lighting sources and upgraded texture resolution too.
RED FACTION II is priced at $49.99 and has been rated for Mature players.
