Hotnews.ro reports that Nic Cage and company are headed to Romania to film Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance this fall for Columbia pictures. The word comes from Marketing Manager at Castel Film, Bogdan Moncea.
They also state that the movie will be shot in 3D, the first to film there. It's also the country's first major American film since Cold Mountain in 2002.
Paramount has trounced the competition at the box office this summer, according to the Hollywood Reporter with the comic-based Iron Man 2 being their biggest success. The movie raked in over $312 million. Shrek Forever After lent a hand with another $237 million.
Paramount's slate accounts for some 20% of the summer season with runner-up Disney taking 16%. That balance will obviously shift Disney's way in coming years as the Marvel money-makers expire from the Paramount distribution deal and come fully under the Mouse House roof.
Movie mogul James Cameron told MTV Splash Page that his long-discussed, forever-in-development film version of Battle Angel Alita could actually be on the horizon. With the blockbuster success of Avatar many are presuming he'll do a sequel to that first. Another possibility is another undersea movie called The Dive, but the director says he hasn't made a decision yet.
"There's 'X' amount of time available, and I do want to do another Avatar film — probably two — and I'm talking to Fox about that now," he added. "There's a strong possibility that I might insert one of these other movies in between before I do that. It's all up in the air right now."
Regardless, the experience of making Avatar benefits the special-effects heavy Battle Angel movie.
"The mixture of live-action and CG is a little trickier in 3-D than it is 2-D," Cameron told MTV News. "Now we see it's good to have done Avatar first before Battle Angel, because the tricky scenes are where you're blending live-action photography, stereoscopic photography and CG."
Fans are feeling so fatigued by vampires that they'll actually pay to see a movie like Vampires Suck, but Scott Stewart, director of the manhwa-based Priest says his blood-sucker tale is pretty far removed from fare like Twilight or True Blood.
"The priests of our story are like Jedi knights," Stewart told MTV News. "They have these supernatural abilities to fight vampires and they saved humanity before the movie even begins. Now, a generation later, society has moved on from war, and the priests are like pariahs. They're almost like Vietnam vets — they've been cast aside by society and they're now reviled and feared."
Add to that the fact that the movie is set in a "big apocalyptic landscape that is entirely futuristic." Clearly you're not going to see a bunch of sex, brooding undead in this one.
However fans will have to wait until next May when Priest, starring Paul Bettany is released.
There's a new international trailer for RED online. The film stars Bruce Willis, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren as retired CIA operatives who find themselves targeted for elimination. Check it out:
